The Lakeland Magic, NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, hosted 2,000 students yesterday for the second annual School Day Game presented by AdventHealth.

The unique game experience pairs the excitement of NBA basketball with an educational focus on STEM curriculum and provides students with a unique learning experience. Upon arrival, each student was provided with a twenty-page booklet to be completed throughout the game. Students experienced in-game entertainment with interactive elements to follow along and problem solve in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

Lakeland Magic mascot, Swish, the interactive Scream Team, and Kid Balla, a third grade rapper from Bethune Academy, entertained the crowd including 24 schools from across Polk County. The Polk County School Board staff was also present, including the Superintendent of Polk County Schools, Jacqueline Byrd. "What an awesome day, it's not just basketball but the academic challenges faced throughout the game," said Byrd.

Saddle Creek Logistics also played an instrumental role in the day by providing students with transportation to and from the RP Funding Center. "It was a team effort and we greatly appreciate the leadership at Polk County Public Schools for being such a wonderful partner and for making this day a success," said Lakeland Magic President, Shelly Wilkes. All students in attendance were given a free ticket to a future game with the purchase of one adult ticket. "We hope they had a memorable time here today and look forward to having them back out to another game soon," said Wilkes.
