Lakeland Magic Hold Black History Month Student Essay-Writing Contest with 200+ Submissions

The Lakeland Magic, NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, recently hosted an essay-writing contest to recognize Black History Month. Students in the Polk County area from kindergarten to twelfth grade were invited to submit their essay, titled "What Black History Month Means to Me" by Friday, Feb. 22 in order to be considered to win. One grand prize winner from Elementary, Middle and High School were selected and include the following:

Elementary School: Vanely Medina (Floral Avenue Elementary) | Read Essay

Middle School: Juliana Allman ( Dundee Ridge Middle School) | Read Essay

High School: James Agan (George Jenkins High School) | Read Essay

The contest winners were all awarded four courtside tickets to the Lakeland Magic game on Sunday, March 3 and will be honored during halftime. As a thank you for participating, all students that submitted an essay received two complimentary tickets to Sunday's game.

All Polk County teachers are also provided with free tickets to the upcoming game on Tuesday, March 19 celebrating Teacher Appreciation Night.
