Lake Erie Crushers News Release
AVON, Ohio - The Lake Erie Crushers were limited to just three hits on Thursday night at Mercy Health Stadium, as they fell in their series finale against the Gateway Grizzlies, 5-0.
The Crushers (26-30) were shutout for the fifth time this season and the Grizzlies (25-32) took the season series, 7-5 with the win.
Lake Erie tallied only three hits on the night and had only one base runner reach second base.
Paul Hall Jr. (2-4) took a no hitter into the sixth inning. He issued a walk to Justin Jones to start the inning and two batters later Abdiel Diaz singled into right field for Gateway's first hit. Andres Regnault walked to load the bases and Chase Vallot brought in the first run on a sacrifice fly.
The Grizzlies added two more in the top of the seventh to take a 3-0 lead. Jose Rosario singled into left and scored moments later on Connor Owings's two-run homer to right, his fourth of the season.
Gateway removed any doubt by scoring two more runs in the top of the ninth. Nick Rotola started the inning with a single through the left side of the infield and Dustin Woodcock doubled to right. Rosario torched the Crushers one more time, delivering a two run double to left, his seventh hit of the series.
Hall Jr. pitched well but took the loss. He allowed three runs on four hits and struck out seven over 6 2/3 innings of work. Matt Mulhearn (1-1) limited the Crushers to just a pair of hits over seven scoreless innings and struck out three in the winning effort.
The Crushers begin a new series against the Florence Y'alls at Mercy Health Stadium on Friday night. Right-hander Tyson Cronin (2-3, 5.79) will get the start for the Crushers. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
