The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) and Toronto FC played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at Banc of California Stadium. Forward Carlos Vela's stoppage time penalty kick salvaged a point after TFC had gone up inside 20 minutes.
With a 7-0-5 record (4-0-2 at home), LAFC finished the regular season undefeated against the Eastern Conference. The Club remains in first place in the Supporters' Shield standings with an overall record of 19-4-8 (65 points) record.
The visitors took the lead in the 19th minute as Jozy Altidore set up Tsubasa Endoh who sent a low shot across the face of goal beating Tyler Miller at the far post. With the draw, the visitors officially clinched their place in the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs.
LAFC would slowly get back into the match, registering 15 of its 17 shots in the second half. Minutes into stoppage time, referee Ted Unkel would turn to Video Review and award the Black & Gold a penalty kick after Latif Blessing was taken down inside the box. Vela stepped up and buried his league-best 29th goal of the season, and is now two goals shy of tying the all-time goalscoring record.
With his goal, Vela and teammate Diego Rossi have now combined for the most goals by two teammates in one season (44) - surpassing Josef Martinez and Miguel Almiron's record of 43 combined goals in 2018.
