Los Angeles FC News Release

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) suffered their first home defeat of the 2021 season on Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 to New York City FC at Banc of California Stadium. Corey Baird gave LAFC the lead in the 56thminute with his third goal of the season, but the visitors scored twice in the final 20 minutes of the game to claim the win and drop LAFC's record to 2-3-2 for eight points on the season.

After a quiet first half, LAFC pulled in front just before the hour mark when Mark-Anthony Kaye's low cross was deflected into the path of Baird, who tapped the ball in, giving LAFC a 1-0 lead. That goal was his third of the season, tying him with Diego Rossi for the team lead.

The score would remain that way until the 70thminute when Jesus Medina curled a shot inside the far post past LAFC goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega, tying the score at 1-1.

NYCFC were reduced to 10 men in the 86thminute when Nicolas Acevado was shown his second yellow card of the game, but that did not stop them from grabbing a game-winning goal in the 90thminute. Substitute Ismael Tajouri-Shradi got free at the back post to score from a corner kick and give NYCFC a 2-1 victory.

LAFC returns to action on Saturday, June 19 when it hosts the Houston Dynano at Banc of California Stadium. That game kicks off at 8:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast nationally in Spanish on UniMás.
