LAFC Extends Winning Streak to a Club Record Six Games with 5-0 Win over Charlotte FC

Jesus Murillo, Jose Cifuentes, Carlos Vela and Cristian Arango all scored seond half goals to lead LAFC to a convincing 5-0 win over Charlotte FC on Saturday night in front of a capacity crowd at Banc of California Stadium. LAFC have now won six consecutive MLS games for the first time in Club history and remain atop the MLS standings with a 17-4-3 record for 54 points.

After a scoreless first half, Murillo gave the home side the lead in the 49th minute, heading home a Diego Palacios cross. Over the next 27 minutes, LAFC would add three more goals to put the game out of reach before adding a fifth in second half stoppage time for the game's final tally. The 5-0 win is LAFC's biggest win of the season and their sixth straight home victory dating back to May 28. The Club is now six points ahead of both Austin FC and Philadelphia in the Supporters Shield standings with 10 regular season matches remaining.

With the win, LAFC is now 17-4-3 on the season for a league-best 54 points. The club is six points ahead of Austin FC and the Philadelphia Union in the race for the Supporters Shield.

LAFC is now 10-1-2 at home this season for 32 of the club's MLS-best 54 points.

Tonight's win extended LAFC's winning streak in league games to six games, setting a new club record.

The win was also LAFC's sixth straight home victory, equaling a club record that was originally set during the 2019 season.

LAFC is now 17-0-1 when scoring two or more goals in a game this season and 9-0-0 when scoring three or more goals.

In eight games against the Eastern Conference this season, LAFC is 7-0-1 for 22 of a possible 24 points.

LAFC is now a perfect 17-0-0 when scoring first this season.

With the five goals tonight, LAFC has now scored in 38 consecutive regular season home games dating back to August 22, 2020. That is the second longest streak in MLS history.

This was the ninth time that LAFC has scored five or more goals in a regular season game and the first since scoring six in a 6-0 over Vancouver on September 23, 2020. The five-goal margin of victory is tied for the second biggest win in club history.

The five second half goals scored by LAFC are the most scored by the club in the second half and equal the most they've scored in a single half all-time. The club scored five times in the first half of the 6-0 win over Vancouver on September 23,2020.

Jose Cifuentes and Carlos Vela each had a goal and an assist in the game. This was the first time that Cifuentes had a goal and an assist in the same game in his MLS career while Vela has now achived the feat 19 times in the regular season, including twice this season.

Cifuentes now has seven goals on the season, setting a new MLS-career-high while his six assists equal his MLS-career-high.

Cristian Arango has scored in five of the six games during LAFC's current winning streak, tallying six goals in that time. He has also scored in five of the six games during LAFC's current home winning streak.

After scoring two goals in his first 13 appearances of the season, Arango now has 10 goals in his last 11 games.

Jesus David Murillo scored the game-winning goal in the 49th minute. That was his second goal of the season and the first game-winning goal of his MLS career.

The own goal scored by Charlotte's Anton Walkes was the first own goal scored for LAFC this season.

This was the first-ever game between LAFC and Charlotte FC.

The Black & Gold will have just two days of training before returning to action on Tuesday, August 16 when they host D.C. United at Banc of California Stadium. That game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast locally on KCOP13 and Estrella TV.
