August 14, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Austin FC News Release
Austin, TEXAS - A stoppage-time goal from Sebastián Driussi saw Austin FC complete a multiple-goal comeback to defeat Sporting Kansas City 4-3 on Saturday night in front of a sold out crowd at Q2 Stadium. The goal was Driussi's league-leading 17th of the season, and he has now contributed to a goal in an joint-MLS-best eight-consecutive matches.
SKC went ahead by two goals early, with Andreu Fontàs and William Agada putting away rebounds in the 12th and 23rd minutes, respectively. Gallagher halved the deficit just four minutes later, hitting a low volley from the edge of the area that found the bottom corner. Johnny Russell restored the visitors' cushion before halftime though, converting a penalty kick.
Cascante came up with a response for the Verde & Black in the second half, scoring with a powerful header to bring Austin within a goal once again. ATXFC almost equalized in the midst of a goal-mouth scramble in the 73rd-minute, and finally did so through Hoesen with five minutes remaining. Felipe provided the assist with his first touch after coming on as a substitute, sending a looping pass into the area which Hoesen volleyed in.
Driussi then popped up in stoppage time to score a dramatic winner, sliding in a shot from close range to claim all three points for the Verde & Black.
