Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks were victorious over the Kansas City T-Bones 3-1 on an overcast Saturday night at Newman Outdoor Field in front of 2,886 fans.

The Redhawks (14-6) received another outstanding performance from starting pitcher Jake Laber (3-2). Getting the nod after throwing a six-hit, one-run complete game against Schaumburg on June 6, Laber kept a tough T-Bones offense in check. He scattered nine hits over 8.1 innings, allowing one run while striking out seven and not allowing a free pass. Laber also helped his own cause by picking off two T-Bones on the base paths.

Kansas City (14-8) starter Ryan Knippschild (4-1) was denied in his quest to become the Northern League's first five-game winner. Knippschild went 5.2 innings, giving up seven hits and three runs. He struck out four and walked two.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when Kansas City catcher Eladio Rodriguez drove in Brian Joynt, who reached base on a long double to right, with an RBI single.

Knippschild was cruising through the fifth and retired the first two batters in the sixth inning. However, he then gave up two singles and a walk, loading the bases for RedHawks catcher Alan Rick. Rick hit a line drive up the middle, scoring two. Second baseman Carlo Cota followed with another single, which again loading the bases for Cory Patton. Knippschild walked Patton, scoring the third run of the inning before being pulled by T-Bones manager Tim Doherty.

Rick and Zach Penprase were each 2-for-4 for Fargo-Moorhead. Penprase returned to the team after missing two games for personal reasons.

Rodriguez was 2-for-3 for Kansas City and teammate Jacob Blackwood had another solid game, going 2-for-4 on the night.

RedHawks closer Donnie Smith retired the final two batters of the ninth inning to earn his third save on the season.

The two teams will close out their weekend series tomorrow afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field. Andrew Cruse (2-1) will get the start for Kansas City while RedHawk skipper Doug Simunic will give the ball to Chad Rhoades (2-0). First pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm.
