Rockford RiverHawks News Release
LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks have added an experienced catcher and a rookie pitcher.
The team announced Saturday that it has signed catcher Travis Scott, a former Seattle farmhand, and pitcher Greg Stolzenburg. Rockford made room on the roster with the release of catcher Adam Shorsher and the trade of right-hander Alex Thieroff to Shreveport of the independent American Association.
Scott was selected out of Lincoln Land Community College as a draft-and-follow pick by the Mariners in the 20th round in 2005. He spent four years with the Seattle organization before his release this spring. Last year, at high Class A High Desert in the California League, he hit .285 with 15 home runs and 71 RBI.
Stolzenburg was 1-1 with a 5.40 earned-run average and a save in 11 2/3 innings last year at Elgin Community College. The Spartans used him primarily as an infielder - he was a National Junior College Athletic Association Third-Team All-American.
Shorsher hit .196 with two homers and six RBI in 18 games. Thieroff, who was dealt for a player to be named, was 0-0 with a 15.26 ERA and no saves in eight appearances.
The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league in its 18th season.
