Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Schaumburg, IL - After losing five straight on the road, the Flyers (6-15) rebounded with a win in the series opener with the Goldeyes (12-10).

After Todd Moser (1-3) retired the first three batters in the top of the first, the bottom of the inning saw an explosion of offense for Schaumburg, which led to five runs in the frame.

It all started out with a Brandon Newton leadoff single, which led to another six consecutive hits and a sacrifice fly by Andre Marshall. The Flyers would later add two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to give the team seven runs in the game.

The Goldeyes did manage to score two runs in the game. The first tally came in the top of the fourth and then a run also scored in the top of the ninth with two outs.

It was a strong start for Moser, giving up just one run in seven innings with three walks and two strikeouts. Winnipeg starter Chris Salamida (2-2) did not fare as well, giving up seven earned runs in seven innings of work and gave up five runs in the first inning. It was enough for the Flyers to comfortably sit in the lead throughout the entire game.

All of the Flyers hitters had a hit in the game except for right fielder Chris Schultz, who struggled again tonight. The bats were led by Travis Brown and Joey Gomes, who both went 2 for 3. Brown had a double and an RBI triple in the game along with a walk. Gomes had a base hit with an RBI, a single up the middle, and a sacrifice fly in the Schaumburg win.

Tomorrow the Flyers continue their series with the Goldeyes at Alexian Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Join Alex Perlman and Chris Lobosco on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the Goldeyes. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 5:45 PM with the game to follow.
