LA Galaxy Earn 4-1 Win over St. Louis CITY SC at 2023 Coachella Valley Invitational on Wednesday Afternoon

LOS ANGELES - Playing their first match in the 2023 Coachella Valley Invitational, the LA Galaxy earned a 4-1 win over St. Louis CITY SC at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif., on Wednesday afternoon. Efraín Álvarez recorded a brace, while Dejan Joveljić and Mark Delgado each scored their first goals of the 2023 preseason in the win over St. Louis.

2023 LA Galaxy Preseason

The LA Galaxy improved to 2-1-1 in four preseason matches in 2023. On Jan. 24, the Galaxy earned a 3-2 win over D.C. United behind goals from Riqui Puig, Álvarez and a stoppage-time game-winning goal by Preston Judd. On Jan. 28, the LA Galaxy and Charlotte FC played to a 1-1 draw. Riqui Puig tallied a penalty-kick goal in the draw against Charlotte. LA fell 2-1 to New York City FC at Dignity Health Sports Park on Feb. 4. Álvarez leads the Galaxy with three goals scored during the 2023 preseason, while Puig ranks second on the team with two goals scored. Next up for the Galaxy at the Coachella Valley Invitational, LA squares off against the Portland Timbers on Sunday, Feb. 12 (10:30 a.m. PT) before closing out its time in Indio Calif., against the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, Feb. 15 (10:30 a.m. PT). The Galaxy wrap up the 2023 preseason against Toronto FC at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday, Feb. 18 (6:30 p.m. PT).

Goal-Scoring Plays

STL - Jared Stroud (Tomáš Ostrák), 10th minute: St. Louis took the early lead after a centering pass across the face of goal was tucked away by Jared Stroud.

LA - Mark Delgado, 29th minute: Chicharito headed down a floated cross to Dejan Joveljić, who slipped a pass across the face of goal to Mark Delgado. Delgado's shot from the center of the box was parried away by St. Louis goalkeeperRoman Bürki, but Delgado was first to the rebound and buried his shot at the near post.

LA - Dejan Joveljić (Raheem Edwards), 52nd minute: Chase Gasper's cross into the box found Raheem Edwards, who quickly laid the ball off inside the box to Joveljić. The Serbian international took a touch and then drilled his shot into the lower corner of the goal.

LA - Efraín Álvarez (Penalty Kick), 66th minute: After a handball in the box was issued to St. Louis, Álvarez stepped up to the spot and fired his penalty kick attempt past Ben Lundt.

LA - Efraín Álvarez (Séga Coulibaly), 79th minute: A clearance from Séga Coulibaly released Álvarez behind the St. Louis defense. Álvarez carried the ball and fended off his defender before rolling his shot from inside the penalty area into the far corner.
