
LA Galaxy Defender Martín Cáceres Named to Uruguay National Team's World Cup Roster

LOS ANGELES - LA Galaxy defender Martín Cáceres has been named to Uruguay's 26-man roster by head coach Diego Alonso for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Cáceres, 35, earns his fourth call up to Uruguay's roster for a FIFA World Cup (2010, 2014, 2018, 2022). Cáceres has tallied three goals and six assists in 113 games played (102 starts) for Uruguay since making his debut against South Africa on Sept. 12, 2007.
After signing with the LA Galaxy on Aug. 24, the Montevideo, Uruguay, native went on to log one assist in eight appearances (7 starts) across all competitions during the 2022 campaign.
Notably, Cáceres has made 11 appearances (11 starts) for Uruguay across three World Cups. In his first FIFA World Cup that took place in Germany in 2010, Cáceres started and played 90 minutes in the Semifinals against Netherlands on July 6 and started against Germany in the Third-Place game on July 10. In the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Cáceres made four appearances (4 starts) for La Celeste. Cáceres made five appearances (5 starts) for Uruguay during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, including starting all three group stage matches and starting in the Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals.
Uruguay are placed in Group H of the 2022 FIFA World Cup along with South Korea, Portugal and Ghana. Cáceres and Uruguay will kick off group play against South Korea on Thursday, Nov. 24 at 5:00 a.m. PT. La Celeste will then face Portugal on Monday, Nov. 28 at 11:00 a.m. PT and will close out group play against Ghana on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:00 a.m. PT.
