
Orlando City SC Forward Facundo Torres Selected to Uruguay National Team's World Cup Roster

ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando City SC forward Facundo Torres has been named to the Uruguay National Team's roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this month, it was announced today.
Entering the marquee international tournament, Torres has made 10 appearances at the senior level for the Uruguayan National Team, earning his first cap on June 3, 2021, in World Cup Qualifying against Paraguay. Prior to that, he had appeared at the U-15, U-17 and U-20 levels for his home country, totaling 54 appearances and 31 goals in international play.
Torres, 22, joined the Lions ahead of the 2022 season, making 40 appearances and 36 starts across all competitions. The Uruguayan international scored a team-high 13 goals and recorded 12 assists, setting the Club-record for single-season goal contributions at 25, while leading the side in game-winning finishes with five in MLS including the decider on Decision Day to punch City's ticket its third-consecutive Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. In addition, Torres netted a pair of goals while notching an assist in the U.S. Open Cup Final to help the Club to its first trophy in the MLS era, leading the Lions throughout the competition with four goals in Open Cup play.
Uruguay is set to play in Group H for the group stage of the competition. "La Celeste" will take on South Korea in the opening match at Education City Stadium in Doha on Thursday, Nov. 24, followed by Portugal at Lusail Stadium in Lusail on Monday, Nov. 28, and wrap up group-stage play against Ghana at Al Wakrah Sports Complex Stadium in Al Wakrah on Friday, Dec. 2. Uruguay's group stage matches will kickoff at 8 a.m. ET, 2 p.m. ET and 10 a.m. ET respectively.
