LA Galaxy Announce #Since96 Week Programming in Buildup to 2019 Opening Match on March 2
Comprehensive fan and community programming announced for week leading up to club's 2019 home opener March 2 at Dignity Health Sports Park
LOS ANGELES (Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019) - The LA Galaxy announced today the schedule for #Since96 week, a comprehensive week of programming in the lead up to the club's 2019 MLS Regular Season opening match, set for March 2 against the Chicago Fire at Dignity Health Sports Park (5 p.m. PT; FS1, FOX Deportes).
The LA Galaxy will host numerous events throughout Los Angeles to celebrate the start of the club's 24th Major League Soccer season in LA since 1996.
The LA Galaxy will light up Los Angeles on Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Santa Monica Pier, turning the Pacific Wheel at Pacific Park® to LA Galaxy colors. The Pacific Wheel at Pacific Park® will remain Galaxy colors in the buildup to the team's home opener on Saturday, marking the second-consecutive year the iconic location in Los Angeles will celebrate the Galaxy's home opener.
Additionally, the LA Galaxy, David Beckham and Herbalife Nutrition will unveil a refurbished turf field and mural in downtown Los Angeles at The Salvation Army Red Shield Youth and Community Center at 1532 West 11th Street, Los Angeles, CA, providing a place to play soccer for over 2,000 children each month in an underserved area in LA.
The six-day schedule of programming made for LA Galaxy fans will kick off with a social media contest on Monday, when followers have the chance to win 2019 Home Opener tickets on the LA Galaxy's Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages. Other events across Los Angeles will be put on throughout the week, including meet and greets with LA Galaxy players in Downtown Los Angeles and Long Beach on Tuesday, a flash pick-up futsal tournament in Hawthorne on Wednesday and celebration of Read Across America Day with the LA Galaxy Foundation at Dignity Health Sports Park on Thursday.
The week of programming will culminate on Saturday, March 2 at Dignity Health Sports Park when the Galaxy host the Chicago Fire. Before the match, the Galaxy will unveil the #BeckhamStatue of legendary midfielder David Beckham in a pregame ceremony. At halftime of the match, the LA Galaxy will induct the iconic player into the club's Ring of Honor at Dignity Health Sports Park, joining Cobi Jones, Mauricio Cienfuegos and Doug Hamilton.
