La Crosse Loggers News Release
The La Crosse Loggers failed to split their two-game series against the Duluth Huskies yesterday in a pitcher's duel.
Drew Christo (Nebraska) made his fifth start of the season for the Loggers. He was on cruise control until Peyton Powell (Texas) belted a 2-run homer in the 4th inning. In total, Christo went 5.0 innings while allowing 3 runs. Mickey Thompson (San Jose State), Sam Mettert (Wabash Valley CC), and Will Watson (West Virginia) all tossed scoreless frames in relief, but were gifted no run support.
In addition to a 3-run 4th inning, propelled by Powell's homer and sloppy defense, the Huskies scored once more in the 5th . Devin Hurdle (Nebraska-Omaha) started the inning with a base-hit and was brought around by Kristian Campbell (Georgia Tech), who had grounded into a double-play.
Jake Hamilton (Oklahoma Baptist) toed the slab for the Huskies, logging his sixth start of the summer. The 6'4 hurler was flawless, notching 6.0 innings of shutout ball while striking out 8. JD McReynolds (Central Missouri) pitched 2.0 scoreless innings and Jake Christianson (Feather River College) finished it off in the 9th.
Hits were few and far between for the Lumberman, with only 3 on the evening. They came from Aidan Sweatt (North Florida), Luke Leto (LSU), and Carson Hornung (South Carolina), who each went 1-3. With a line shot in the 1st inning, Hornung extended his hitting streak to a league leading 17 games.
The Loggers will continue their home stand tomorrow as the Rochester Honkers come into town. It will be "Salute to the 4th" night at Copeland Park, presented by Fastenal. The first pitch is slated for 6:35pm CT on the north side of La Crosse. Fans can watch live at https://northwoodsleague.com/watch-nwl/ or listen live at https://mixlr.com/lacrosseloggers.
