Fond du Lac Dock Spiders News Release
FOND DU LAC, WI - The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders swept the Kokomo Jackrabbits with an 11-1 win on Saturday night at Herr-Baker Field.
The win clinched the first sweep of the year for the Dock Spiders, who improved to 17-15 with the win. The loss dropped the Jackrabbits to 9-24 on the year. Over the series, the Dock Spiders outscored the Jackrabbits 19-4.
Stephen Schissler (Nova Southeastern) dominated on the mound for the Dock Spiders, as he struck out a career-high nine batters over five innings. His nine strikeouts marked a season-high for a Dock Spiders pitcher.
After Jackrabbits starter Garrett Bell (Ithaca) retired nine of the first 10 batters that he faced, the Dock Spiders exploded in the fourth inning for five runs. After a run scored on an error, Evan Smith (West Virginia) tallied two RBI with a double to right-center at 102 MPH to give the Dock Spiders a 3-0 lead. The double was the hardest hit ball by a Dock Spiders hitter this year. The Dock Spiders would tally two more in the inning off a single from Tyeler Hawkins (Louisville) and the first of two sacrifice flies from Jackson Loftin (Oral Roberts).
In the fifth inning, the Dock Spiders scored five more to take a commanding 10-1 lead. Grant Hussey (West Virginia) led off the inning with a triple before he was driven in after two hit batters and a walk. Kyte McDonald (Wichita State) would drive in three more on a bases-clearing triple before Loftin brought home his second run of the night with a sacrifice fly to center.
The Dock Spiders would score their final run of the night in the seventh when Hawkins brought home McDonald with a double to right-center.
The Dock Spiders will be back on the road tomorrow evening against the Madison Mallards at Warner Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
