Willmar Stingers News Release
BISMARCK, ND - The Willmar Stingers narrowly lost tonight to the Bismarck Larks, 8-7.
Bismarck was able to survive a late surge from the Willmar bats to hold on for the win.
The game was close with the Larks holding a 1-0 advantage until the bottom of the fourth when Bismarck was able to score seven runs. 11 batters came to the plate that inning cycling through the whole lineup.
The Stingers got on the board in a big way in the top of the sixth where they were able to score five runs. The majority of those runs came from the bat of Zac Corbin who hit a bases-loaded double sending everyone home.
With the score 8-5, the Stingers went on to score two more in the top of the eighth. Willmar had an opportunity to score more runs but was unable to capitalize with the bases loaded with two outs and left runners stranded to end the inning.
The game would end 8-7 in favor of the Larks. The win would be given to Joseph Kalafut (1-0) and the loss was attributed to Sam Malec (3-2).
The MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game was awarded to John Klein. Klein came into the game in the fifth inning and pitched four scoreless innings as he kept the Stingers afloat to end the game. Without the amazing effort from the Kansas State commit, Willmar would not had have the opportunity to attempt their comeback.
Game two of the series between the Stingers and the Larks starts tomorrow at 6:35 p.m.
