Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters swept the Wausau Woodchucks with a 9-4 victory Saturday night. The Pit Spitters used a big inning in each game to pull away and secure the sweep.
Colin Summerhill brought in the opening run with a sacrifice fly in the first. It was Summerhill's first game since injuring his shoulder in Wausau on June 18. Summerhill finished the day 2-3 with two RBI's.
Christian Beal doubled the score in the second with a two-out RBI double. It would not be the only two-out hit for Beal in the game.
The Woodchucks answered in the top of the third, scoring two runs on four hits, all singles. They'd be shut down by Pit Spitter pitching for the next four innings.
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, the Pit Spitters would put five consecutive runners on base, four reaching on hits. Beal recorded his second two-out hit of the game on an RBI single. Marshall Toole followed with an RBI hit of his own. After a walk to load the bases and a wild pitch to score the third run, Summerhill knocked in his second run of the night. Hunter Tabb continued the scoring burst with a two-run ground rule double. After a 10-batter, six-run inning, the score was 8-2.
Aaron Forrest left the game after four innings. The righty gave up just the two runs on six hits. It was his first start of the season not recording a single strikeout.
Avery Goldensoph and O'Kelly McWilliams IV combined for three scoreless innings. McWilliams recorded the first strikeout by a Pit Spitter pitcher in the seventh inning.
In the bottom half of the seventh, Sam Tackett brought in Summerhill with a sacrifice fly to make the score 9-2. Wausau would score two in the eighth but went down in order in the ninth to fall 9-4.
