St. Lucie Mets News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE Fla. (August 9, 2015) - Jake Kuebler pitched out of big jams in the eighth and ninth as the St. Lucie Mets edged the Jupiter Hammerheads 3-2 on Sunday at Tradition Field.

The Mets took a one-run lead to the ninth and Kuebler gave up back-to-back singles to open the inning. However, Rodrigo Vigil fouled off a bunt for the third strike and Kuebler got a fly out and ground out to end the game.

In the eighth, Justin Bohn singled home Yefri Perez to cut the Mets lead to 3-2. Bohn made it to second base with one out but Kuebler was able to retire the next two batters to escape trouble.

Scarlyn Reyes made his best FSL start and earned his first win. The right-hander limited the Hammerheads to one unearned run in six innings. Reyes walked one and struck out three.

Major League rehabber Erik Goeddel tossed a perfect seventh with two strikeouts.

Kuebler, added activated from the DL on Saturday, pitched in his first game since May 28. He was credited with the six-out save.

The Mets took a 2-0 lead in the first against Ben Holmes. Yeixon Ruiz and Victor Cruzado led off the inning with singles. Ruiz would score on a wild pitch. Later in the inning Dominic Smith hit a sac fly to plate Cruzado.

The Mets went up 3-0 in the fourth. Amed Rosario, activated off the DL earlier in the day, clubbed a two-out double. He scored when Ruiz doubled two batters later.

St. Lucie pounded out 11 hits. Ruiz, Smith, Stefan Sabol and Phil Evans had two hits apiece. Matt Oberste extended his hitting streak to nine games with a single on his birthday.

Bohn led the way for Jupiter. He went 3 for 4 and drove it both Hammerheads runs.

The Mets (58-53, 23-19) open up a three-game series at Tradition Field on Monday against the Fort Myers Miracle. David Wright will join the Mets on a rehab assignment and DH. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
