Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
DUNEDIN, FL - The Dunedin Blue Jays (50-62, 18-24) topped the Brevard County Manatees (47-63, 18-23) by way of the walk-off hit for the second consecutive night as Anthony Alford delivered the game winner defeating the Manatees, 7-6. The Jays have won four straight and finished off a sweep of Brevard County.
Jorge Saez led off the ninth with a single to set the stage for more late inning heroics. Dunedin went to small ball as Andy Fermin laid down the sacrifice bunt to advance Saez to second base. Then it was all Alford who drove Saez home on a double. Alford had four hits on the night.
It was a slugfest early on as the D-Jays and Manatees combined to score 11 runs through the first four innings. Dunedin plated two in the first, second, and third frames.
The early scoring by Dunedin was highlighted by a two home-run inning in the fourth. Derrick Loveless and Fermin supplied solo shots during frame. Loveless has homered twice over the last three games.
Following the scoring madness early, each side only score once over the final five innings of play. Brevard County scored a single tally in the eighth to even the score at six. Jose Pena hit a solo homer to lead off the inning, drawing the Manatees even before Alford's game winner.
Chris Smith earned the win for Dunedin and Caleb Earls suffered the loss for Brevard County.
The Jays will welcome the Daytona Tortugas to Florida Auto Exchange Stadium for a three-game set, beginning, tomorrow, August 10th at 6:30PM. Keury Mella will go for the Tortugas, Dunedin has not announced a starter.
