Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba - The Brandon Wheat Kings, in association with TELUS, have announced their first Player of the Month winner for the 2019-20 Western Hockey League season.

Second year netminder Ethan Kruger earned the nod for the first month of the regular season, which included four games during the month of September.

An 18-year old from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Kruger wasn't expected to be as busy as he was during the start of the season but an injury to veteran Jiri Patera forced him to carry the bulk of the lead during the Wheat Kings recent west coast road trip.

Entering this weekend's home games against Swift Current and Lethbridge, Kruger has posted a 2.94 goals against average and a .911 save percentage in ten appearances.

Chosen by the Wheat Kings in the fifth round (109th overall) in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft in Calgary, the former Sherwood Park AAA U18 King compiled a 3.05 goals against average in 22 games during his rookie season in 2018-19.

Kruger becomes the first TELUS monthly award winner of the season.

This award is presented to the Wheat King, who best demonstrates success - both on and off the ice - as a teammate and role model in the community.

TELUS will present Ethan with this monthly award during the second intermission of Saturday night's game against the visiting Hurricanes at Westoba Place.

Saturday night is also MNP Team Poster Givewaway, with the first 2,500 fans in attendance to receive a full color 2019-20 Wheat Kings' Team Poster.

Tickets to both Wheat Kings' games this weekend are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.

Brandon enters the weekend with a 6-9-0-0 record after going 3-4-0 during its recent 7-game road trip.
