North Carolina FC News Release

Carolina midfielder Luke Kreamalmeyer and defender Devon McKenney were named to the USL-1 Team of the Week for Week 6, the USL announced Tuesday.

Kreamalmeyer scored two goals in the RailHawks' 2-0 win at Miami on Saturday, while McKenney's play on the backline helped the RailHawks earn their fourth shutout of the season.

"Luke with his two goals, he's been dangerous a lot this season and hopefully he'll score more," said Carolina coach Martin Rennie. "And Devon's just an outstanding prospect. He's young, he's learning and he's so athletic. I think he's understanding the game better and better."

On a 40th-minute counterattack, Kreamalmeyer worked a flawless give-and-go with Gavin Glinton, creating a seam to attack the Miami goal. As Miami goalkeeper Pat Hannigan charged off his line, Kreamalmeyer chipped the ball over him and into the net.

Kreamalmeyer put the game away in the 58th minute with his second strike. From a nearly impossible angle on the right flank, Kreamalmeyer hit what looked to be a cross. The ball weaved toward the back post and dipped just over Hannigan's outstretched arms and under the crossbar.

McKenney, the RailHawks' right back, helped hold Miami to seven shots, none of which forced Carolina goalkeeper Eric Reed to make a save.

This is the third time this season the RailHawks have placed two players on the USL-1 Team of the Week. Josh Gardner and Jack Stewart were honored in Week 2, while Brian Plotkin and John Gilkerson were named to the team in Week 3.

The first-place RailHawks (4-2-1, 13 points) return to the field with two away matches this weekend. They will play the Cleveland City Stars on Friday at 8 p.m., a match that will be broadcast on Fox Soccer Channel, and they will meet the Austin Aztex on Sunday at 7 p.m., a match that will be broadcast on USLLive.com.
