Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Right-hander Jackson Kowar tied a career high with 10 strikeouts, but the Omaha Storm Chasers lost, 4-2, to the St. Paul Saints on Saturday at CHS Field.

Kowar (Loss, 5-2) picked up his first two strikeouts in the first inning, but allowed a two-run homer to Brent Rooker.

Trailing, 2-0, in the third inning, Omaha (33-19) plated a run against St. Paul (25-27) left-hander Charlie Barnes (Win, 4-2). After shortstop Angelo Castellano led off the inning with a single, third baseman Erick Mejia walked, and left fielder Rudy Martin moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Next, second baseman Gabriel Cancel hit a sacrifice fly to left to cut the Chasers' deficit in half.

The Saints responded with another home run in the bottom of the third inning, a solo shot from Drew Maggi. Kowar struck out three in the third inning to bring his game total to six through 3.0 innings.

Kowar allowed his final run in the fifth when Keon Broxton doubled, moved to third on an error, and scored on a wild pitch. The right-hander picked up his final two strikeouts of the game, striking out Rooker for his tenth strikeout to tie a career high. It was the second time this season Kowar struck out 10, doing so for the first time in 6.0 innings in his start at Iowa on May 22.

Omaha scored its final run in the sixth inning. Cancel led off with a double to left-center field, stole third, and scored on an RBI groundout by designated hitter Ryan McBroom.

Cancel's double was the Chasers' final hit of the game. Barnes, who completed 7.0 innings, combined with right-hander Ian Hamilton (Save, 1), to retire the final 12 batters of the game.

The Storm Chasers complete their series with the St. Paul Saints on Sunday at CHS Field in St. Paul, Minn., when left-hander Jake Kalish (1-1, 7.83) faces right-hander Chandler Shepherd (3-3, 6.69). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. and coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show at 6:45 p.m. on 1180 The Zone.

After the series in St. Paul, the Omaha Storm Chasers return to Werner Park on Tuesday, July 6, to begin a six-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens that features special FNBO Summer Fireworks Series shows on July 8 and July 10 and an Adalberto Mondesi bobblehead giveaway on July 9.
