Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
Joe Koshansky plated five runs, and Colorado Springs powered itself past Round Rock for the second consecutive morning at Security Service Field, in front of 6,949 fans.
Koshansky finished the day with three hits, two of them pushing across go-ahead runs for the Sky Sox. His two-run single in the first inning put the Sky Sox on the board. Then with the game tied in the third inning, his two-run double put the Sky Sox ahead for good. He also added a home run in the sixth inning, finishing just a triple short of the cycle.
John Koronka moved his record to 3-0 with the win. The lefty went 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (two earned). Matt Daley recorded his second hold of the season, pitching 2 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball, and Steven Register pitched a perfect ninth inning.
The Sky Sox and Express finish their four-game set Friday night with a 6:095 start time at Security Service Field. Cedrick Bowers (1-1, 4.76) will make his first start of the season for the Sky Sox while Runelvys Hernandez (1-2, 5.84) will get the nod for the Express.
Exactly one year after undergoing Tommy John surgery, Express starting pitcher Fernando Nieve lasted just one inning. He allowed two runs in his one inning work. It marked the second consecutive day that a starting pitcher failed to make it out of the third inning, after Greg Reynolds pitched just two innings on Wednesday.
Nieve was relieved by Jared Gothreaux (1-3), who picked up the loss for the Express. He allowed four runs on six hits in five innings.
