Tucson Loses Early Lead to Nashville In 10-4 Loss

ucson, AZ - The Sidewinders took an early 3-0 lead but could not outscore Nashville's bats in a 10-4 loss Thursday.

Tucson scored two runs in the first and one in the second inning to capture the early 3-0 lead. Jamie D'Antona and Jesus Merchan each drove in a run singles, while a Trot Nixon RBI double brought in the third run.

Nashville answered back with three runs of their own in the top of the third inning, including a two RBI double by Vinny Rottino.

Nashville didn't look back after the third inning, putting up seven more runs including three in the fifth and four in the sixth. Hernan Iribarren, Brad Nelson, and Rottino added two RBIs each in the two innings, while Russel Branyan added the other run with a single to left making it 10-3.

Tucson's Josh Whitesell cut the Sounds lead with his team leading seventh homerun of the season in the eighth inning.

Sidewinder Shortstop Jesus Merchan extended his hitting streak to 12-games with a 2-for-3 night.

The Sidewinders will face the Nashville Sounds in the last game of the series starting at 6:30 PM on Friday night. RHP Billy Buckner (1-3, 6.19) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Right-hander Mark DiFelice (3-0, 2.65) will start for the Sounds. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:20 am.
