TL1 Tulsa Drillers

Koshansky and Jimenez honored

August 29, 2006 - Texas League (TL1)
Tulsa Drillers News Release

Tulsa Drillers first baseman Joe Koshansky and former Drillers pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez were named to the 2006 Texas League All-Star Team that was announced today by league president Tom Kayser. The Post-Season All-Star Team is chosen through voting by league managers and media members.

Koshansky has had one of the top offensive seasons in Drillers history. With six games remaining in the regular season, he has already established an all-time franchise record with 108 runs batted in. He needs only one more home run to tie the franchise record of 32 homers in a single season. Koshansky has also scored a team-high 84 runs while producing a .293 batting average.

Jimenez spent just over half the season in the Texas League, but still impressed enough to make the prestigious team. He made 13 starts for the Drillers, compiling a 9-2 record with a 2.45 ERA. In his last six starts in the TL, Jimenez was 6-0 with a 0.73 ERA. He totaled 44 strikeouts in only 37 innings in those final starts. Overall in the league, he had 86 strikeouts in 73.1 innings pitched while holding hitters to a .194 batting average. He was promoted to Triple A on June 26.

Wichita third baseman Alex Gordon was named the Texas League Player of the Year, and Corpus Christi pitcher Matt Albers was named the Pitcher of the Year.

Gordon, in his first professional season, is hitting .325 with 29 homers, 95 runs batted in and 22 stolen bases.

Like Jimenez, Albers spent only part of the season in the Texas League. In 19 starts in the TL, Albers was 10-2 with a league-best 2.17 ERA. He had 95 strikeouts in 116 innings. He was promoted to the major leagues by the Houston Astros in late July and is currently in Triple A.

Corpus Christi's Dave Clark was named the Manager of the Year. Clark edged Tulsa's Stu Cole for the award. Like the Drillers, the Hooks won their division's first-half title. With six games left in the regular season, Corpus Christi and Tulsa are tied for the best overall record in the Texas League.
