August 29, 2006 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TX (August 29, 2006) -- Franchise record for wins in a season. Franchise record for strikeouts in a season. Franchise record for home runs in a season. Franchise record for RBIs in a season. That's a synopsis of the 2006 season for Thomas Diamond and Nate Gold. Now, the 'Riders powerful duo has been honored as 2006 Texas League Post-Season All-Stars.
Thomas Diamond (12-5, 3.96) has appeared in 26 games for the 'Riders, earning 12 wins (a franchise record) and striking out 143 (a franchise record), including a career-high 12 strikeouts in the June 28th game against the Tulsa Drillers. Diamond's other 2006 accolades include being named a Texas League All-Star, Texas League Pitcher of the Week for May 8-14, 2006, and he was named a member of minorleaguenews.com's Minor League News MLNFAB50 for 2006, which honors the Top 50 prospects in all of Minor League Baseball.
In 2005, Diamond was named the Texas Rangers Nolan Ryan Minor League Pitcher of the Year in his first full professional season. He also led all Rangers prospects in wins, ERA and strikeouts. The New Orleans native was selected 10th overall by the Rangers in the 2004 draft. Thomas attended and graduated from the University of New Orleans in 2004.
Nate Gold had 11 home runs through the month of June. Then he exploded. Gold slapped 12 bombs in the month of July and currently has 32 (a franchise record), which leads the Texas League as well as all of Double-A Baseball. Gold has also registered 98 RBI (a franchise record), which is good for second in all of Double-A, and seems fitting as 21 of his 32 homeruns have come with runners on-base. Gold was named a Texas League All-Star in 2006. The former Gonzaga standout was selected in the 10th round of the 2002 Draft.
