Vancouver Giants News Release

Cranbrook, B.C. - Tyler Popowich scored two goals, but the Vancouver Giants dropped the final game of their Central Division road trip, falling 3-2 to the Kootenay Ice on Sunday afternoon at Western Financial Place.

Popowich tipped a Matt Barberis point shot past Kootenay goalie Payton Lee on a power play at 7:11 of the first period to put Vancouver on the board. It was Popowich's fourth goal of the season. Cale Fleury equalized for the Ice with a shot from the left circle less that two minutes later.

Barrett Sheen scored on a breakaway in the second period to give Kootenay the lead, and Austin Wellsby added a goal early in the third period. Popowich pulled Vancouver back to within one goal, scoring another power play marker on a pretty deke at the top of the crease. The G-Men pulled goalie David Tendeck for an extra attacker and created a flurry around the Ice goal in the closing moments, but they couldn't beat Lee.

Vancouver out shot Kootenay 34-29. The G-Men were 2-for-4 on the power play. 20-year-old forward Thomas Foster was a late scratch and was traded to the Moose Jaw Warriors during the game.

The Giants return to action at the Langley Events Centre on Friday, January 13th, against the Warriors. For tickets, click here or call 604.4.GIANTS (604.444.2687).
