Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets completed the week of Dec. 27 earning 3 wins and 6 points in 5 games to top the UHL with 24 wins, 51 points and a .689 point percentage (24-10-3). Two shutouts highlighted the week as goalie Tyler Masters turned back 24 shots against the visiting Kansas City Outlaws Monday in a 4-0 win and made 20 saves in a 5-0 whitewashing of the visiting Motor City Mechanics Friday night in front of a sold out New Year's Eve crowd of 10,502. Left winger Sean Venedam scored points in each of the 5 games played (4g, 4a). For the week the defending Tarry Cup Champion Komets had an overall output of 16 goals, 31 assists for 47 points and outshot their opponents 190-127. The special teams netted 6 power play goals in 30 chances for a 20% power play rating and were successful on the penalty kill 24 of 27 times for a penalty kill rating of 88.9%.

This week the Komets will skate at Kansas City Wednesday at 8pm before heading to Flint to face the Generals at 7:35pm Friday. Saturday the Komets return home to host the Missouri River Otters at 7:30pm and Sunday the Danbury Trashers visit for a 5pm faceoff.

Hot December.....the Komets were 13-2-2 for the month of December for a league best 28 points and .824 point percentage in 17 games played. Sean Venedam (LW) led the Komets during the month with 3 hat tricks, 17 goals (5ppg) and 25 points. Center Colin Chaulk also led with 21 assists. Three players topped out at a +15 including Jonathan Goodwin (RW), Rob Guinn (D) and Troy Neumeier (D) as the Komets were +141 overall for the month. The Komet's defense surrendered only 30 goals and posted 5 shutouts. The offense netted 69 goals and added 122 assists for a total of 191 points. Goaltender Tyler Masters was 9-2-2 in 13 appearances and collected 4 shutouts earning a 1.70 goals against average and .932 save percentage. Veteran netminder Kevin St. Pierre made 3 appearances before being listed on the injured reserve list going 3-0-0, posting a 1.33 goals against average, a .959 save percentage and 1 shutout. Goaltender Nathan Grobins also backstopped the Komets to a win while stopping 34 of 38 shots.

Puhalski earns ticket to UHL All-Star Game.....Komet head coach Greg Puhalski has earned the honor of UHL All-Star Coach of Team Mountain Dew. Team Mountain Dew will face Team Pepsi in The UHL All-Star Classic to be held Jan. 24 at Adirondack. Puhalski gets the nod after leading the Komets to a "Team B" division best .689 point percentage after games completed Jan. 2. Teams in the Team B (Team Mountain Dew) division include Fort Wayne, Kalamazoo, Kansas City, Missouri, Muskegon, Quad City and Rockford.

Komet leaders: Center Colin Chaulk 39 assists (league high), 52 points (league high).....Sean Venedam (LW) 22 goals, 6 power play goals, 142 shots.....Jeff Worlton (RW) 166 penalty minutes.....Troy Neumeier (D) +25 (league high).....Jonathan Goodwin (RW) leads UHL rookies with 4 game winning goals and a +20.

Milestones: The Komets directed 53 shots at the Kansas City net for the most shots in a game this season Monday, 12/27 in Fort Wayne.....Danny Stewart (LW) skated his 100th UHL and Fort Wayne career game Monday 12/27 vs Kansas City.....Greg Puhalski coached his 200th Komet win (regular season) Friday 12/31 vs Motor City.....Sean Venedam (LW) passed his 100th UHL/Komet career assist Sunday 1/2 vs Kalamazoo.
