Trashers continue long road trip this week

Despite a pair of losses to Adirondack over the past week, the Danbury Trashers maintain a three-point lead over the Frostbite in the Eastern Division as they continue a long road trip this week. The Trashers will look to bounce back from last week's 1-3 mark with road games at Motor City, Rockford and Fort Wayne this weekend.

TRASHERS FALL 6-1 TO ADIRONDACK

January 2, 2005

Frank Littlejohn's five-point night led the Adirondack Frostbite as the Trashers were defeated by a 6-1 final on Sunday at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

The Trashers took a 1-0 lead at the 10:00 mark of the first period on a power play goal by Mike Bayrack, assisted by Doug Christiansen and John Morlang. However, Frank Bakrlik scored the first of two goals as he netted a power play tally with 1:36 left in the period to tie the score.

The Frostbite then erupted for four second period goals, including one by Littlejohn, Hugo Belanger, David Vychodil and Bakrlik's second of the night. Justin Kelly scored in the 3rd for the Frostbite, who are now three points behind Danbury for the top spot in the UHL's Eastern Division.

TRASHERS END LOSING STREAK WITH 3-1 WIN OVER RICHMOND

January 1, 2005

Despite the best efforts of Richmond netminder Ryan MacIntosh, the Danbury Trashers opened 2005 with a 3-1 win, in front of a Danbury Ice Arena sell-out crowd.

MacIntosh stopped 60-of-63 shots fired his way, including all 43 he faced in the first two periods. The RiverDogs also put up their only goal of the game 3:08 into the second period, as Mark Turner scored from Mike Dombkiewicz and Luch Nasato.

That lone goal held up until 9:48 of the third period, when Doug Christiansen scored his tenth goal of the season, from Jeff Daw and Brent Gretzky. Blake Bellefeuille scored five minutes later to notch his tenth of the year, from Bruce Richardson and Mario Larocque. Bellefeuille made it a pair when he netted the final goal of the game, an empty-netter at 19:01.

Scott Stirling stopped 28-of-29 and neither team scored on the man advantage (Dan 0-3, RMD 0-2)

DANBURY FALLS IN RICHMOND 3-2 ON NEW YEAR'S EVE

Mark Turner scored one goal and added an assist, while Ryan McIntosh stopped 32 of 34 Trashers shots as the Richmond RiverDogs defeated Danbury on New Year's Eve at the Richmond Coliseum.

Danbury struck first with a Doug Christiansen 1st period goal from Jeff Daw, but the RiverDogs scored three unanswered between Danbury's second goal, which was scored by Semir Ben-Amor on the power play from JF David and Mario Larocque in the second period.

The Trashers had several strong opportunities down the stretch of the 3rd period, but McIntosh was a perfect 10/10 on shots faced during the final period.

TRASHERS FIVE-GAME WIN STREAK ENDS WITH 8-5 LOSS TO ADIRONDACK

December 28, 2004

The Danbury Trashers had their five-game winning-streak snapped Tuesday night by Adirondack, 8-5, in front of a capacity crowd of 3,005 at the Danbury Ice Arena.

Hugo Belanger scored a pair of goals and added four assists for six points while Scott Drevitch scored four points on two goals while seven Trashers registered a point in the game. Danbury captain Brent Gretzky led the team with two goals and an assist.

The Danbury penalty kill, ranked second in the league going into Tuesday night's game (87.3%) gave up six goals to Adirondack on the power play, and netted two of their own on the man advantage.

Daw tallied six helpers over three games before being held pointless on January 2nd, which also snapped a 10-game point streak in which he scored 17 points on six goals.

TRASHERS TIDBITS

- What was considered one of the league's top penalty-kill units this season suffered a setback over the past few weeks as opponents have converted on the power play to a 27.2% rate since December 1st. The seven power play goals allowed by Danbury on December 28th against Adirondack is the most in franchise history for a single game.

- Despite losing the last two games of the month, the Trashers still finished December with an impressive 9-4 record. Danbury outscored their opponents 52-41 and the team finished with an impressive +57 plus/minus rating.

- Jeff Daw finished led Danbury scorers with 18 points on nine goals in December with a +5 rating. Three other players (Gretzky, Richardson, Bayrack) averaged at least one point per game in December. Bayrack tied Daw for the most goals in December with nine.

- Blake Bellefeuille's first multi-point game of the season rang in the New Year on January 1st as he scored the last two goals against Richmond in a come from behind 3-1 win in Danbury. Richmond goaltender Ryan McIntosh stopped a league-high 59 shots of 61 faced in the game and held the Trashers scoreless until the midway point of the 3rd period.

- The Danbury Trashers introduced their new mascot ‘Scrappy' before a sold out crowd at the Danbury Ice Arena on January 1, 2005.

FEBRUARY 6TH, 2004 GAME TIME CHANGE ANNOUNCEMENT

The Trashers game against Port Huron scheduled for Sunday, February 6th at the Danbury Ice Arena will now start at 2:00pm instead of the originally scheduled 5:30pm face-off. Please note the schedule change if you already have or are planning to purchase tickets for that game.

Danbury's five-game road trip continues this week with a swing through the Midwest as the Trashers will be in Motor City on Friday night, Rockford on Saturday and Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon. Danbury then goes to Richmond in a return to division play on the 12th before returning for a pair of games on the 14th and 15th against Flint and the 16th against Adirondack.
