Komets to Host Mallards, Trashers in Weekend Doubleheader

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets will play 3 games in 3 nights this weekend, including a Saturday/Sunday home doubleheader. Friday night the Komets skate at Port Huron for the 2nd meeting of the season. The Komets dropped a 5-4 shootout loss at McMorran Arena in the first meeting of the season Oct. 30. Friday's game is the 2nd of 4 games at Port Huron this season. The Flags will make their Fort Wayne debut Feb. 8 when they visit for the first of 3 games against the Komets on Coliseum ice.

The Komets return home Saturday to host the Quad City Mallards at 7:30pm in what may be a battle for 2nd place in the Western Division of the UHL. The Mallards are at Rockford tonight and currently lead the Komets by 3 points in the West. Quad City skates at Rockford again Friday night before making the trip to Fort Wayne Saturday. The Komets are 2-2-0 against the Mallards this season with 7 meetings remaining.

Sunday the Komets entertain the Trashers from Danbury at 5pm. The Komets suffered a 2-1 loss at Danbury in the first meeting of the season Dec. 11. Sunday's tilt will be the 2nd and final meeting of the season against the Trashers. It will be the 2nd of 9 Sunday Komet home games this year.

All 3 games this weekend are scheduled to air on WOWO Radio AM 1190 and at Komets.com at Comcast KometCast.

St. Pierre snags UHL shutout record.....with the Komet's 6-0 win over the visiting Roanoke Valley Vipers New Year's Eve, goaltender Kevin St. Pierre breaks the UHL record for career shutouts by a goaltender with 16. St. Pierre was previously tied with former UHL goaltender Joe Dimaline with15 UHL career shutouts each going into this season. The whitewashing was St. Pierre's 25th minor hockey league career shutout overall, and his 13th Komet career shutout, tying the Fort Wayne franchise record of 13 career shutouts held by Hall of Famer Robbie Irons who had 13 regular season career shutouts during his 12-year career as a Komet in the former International Hockey League (Overall, St. Pierre has 13 regular season shutouts and 1 playoff shutout as a Komet. Irons had 13 regular season and 2 playoff shutouts while playing with the Komets). Also during the New Year's Eve game St. Pierre eclipsed the 10,000 minute mark of his UHL career.

Jorde gets a call from Grand Rapids.....Komet defenseman Ryan Jorde has been called up to the AHL by the Grand Rapids Griffins. Jorde is expected to remain with Grand Rapids at least through this weekend. The Griffins lead the North Division of the AHL Western Conference and are on the road for games at Hamilton tonight, Houston Friday and San Antonio Saturday. Jorde is in his 4th year as a pro has previous AHL experience with Rochester 3 seasons (2002-2005) and started this season skating 2 games at Lowel. Jorde was added to the Komet roster Nov. 22 and has appeared in 18 Komet games (0-1=1, +1, 23 pim).

Komets take Jarram from Jackals.....defenseman John Jarram has been traded from Elmira to the Komets for future considerations. Jarram, 23, is in his 2nd pro year and started the season appearing in 20 games with Elmira posting a goal and 3 points with 39 penalty minutes.

Sunday skate with the Komets.....fans are encouraged to bring their skates to the game this Sunday when the Komets host Danbury at 5pm. Following all Sunday games, Komet fans can enjoy a free skate, courtesy of Wendy's.
