Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford Ill.-The beginning of a three game week between the Rockford IceHogs and Quad City Mallards went down to the wire Wednesday night at the Rockford MetroCentre, and eventually to a shootout with the Mallards topping the Hogs 3-2. Quad City overcame a 2-0 third period deficit to earn the win.

Rockford grabbed the two-goal lead with a power play marker in each of the first two periods. In the opening frame, winger Jason Notermann blasted home his 15th goal of the season at 5:20 to put the Hogs on top. In the second period, winger Bruce Watson knocked in a rebound at 10:16, pushing Rockford's lead to 2-0.

After a goal by defenseman Corey Hessler was ruled to have gone in after the final horn in the second period, Quad City grabbed the momentum in the third to get back into the game. While shorthanded, veteran winger Patrick Nadeau shot in a rebound 56 seconds into the period to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Mallards later tied the contest on the power play when defenseman Jason Jaworski beat Hogs goalie Michel Robinson through traffic at 6:25. In the shootout, Mallards goaltender Jason Tapp was stout, turning away all five Rockford shooters while Robinson's only blemish came in round one when Nadeau slipped one by him.

Special teams were a big factor in the contest as the Hogs were 2-for-9 on the power play while the Mallards were only 1-for-11. The Hogs were outshot 36-24 in the contest with Robinson making 34. Hogs center Preston Mizzi added two assists for Rockford.

Next Home Game: Friday, Jan. 6 vs. Quad City Mallards. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and Mallards continue their three-game week with another contest at the MetroCentre. The Hogs welcome the Milwaukee Brewers Sausages and Bernie Brewer to the game on Friday.
