Komets Southern Sweep Nets Six Points

Fort Wayne, IN | Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 -- The Komets completed the month of January sweeping all three road games of a southern tour last week rustling up six points and improving to 16-18-5 after 39 games of 2010-11, but most importantly finishing their first winning month of the season posting an 8-3-2 record for January. The Komets gained 18 of 26 points for a monthly pace of .692.

More about January -- The Komets won all seven road games during January to pull even on the road at .500 going into February (9-9-2). The Komets extended their streak of winning January records to 14 straight years. The Komets have not had a losing record for January since 1997-98. Left wing Tab Lardner led the Fort Wayne charge with points in eight of 13 games scoring 10 goals, including four game-winners and 14 points while right winger Derek Patrosso also had points in eight of 13 games to lead with 13 assists, 14 points and a plus-10. January also saw the return of center Colin Chaulk to the Fort Wayne roster. Chaulk skated 12 games during the month posting 10 assists and ranked second in the lineup with 13 points while earning a plus-nine. Chaulk had points in eight of the 12 games played and registered four multiple-point games while the Komets were 7-3-2 during that span. Kevin Reiter had the hot hand between the pipes registering a 4-2-0 record in seven appearances and posting a 2.10 goals-against average making 145 saves for a .924 save percentage.

The Komets extended their road win string to seven games and have been unbeaten in regulation on the road in eight straight (7-0-1). Fort Wayne's player of the week was Patrosso with a goal, five assists and plus-6. Patrosso assisted on two of the three game winners and pushed his point and assist-scoring streak to a current CHL high seven games (1 goal, 12 assists). Kevin Reiter appeared in two of the three games (2-0-0), stopped 52 of 56 shots for a 2.00 goals-against average and .929 save percentage.

First ever meeting between the Komets and Mudbugs. The Komets were held to only 15 shots on goal for the fewest shots in a game this season. Colin Chaulk registered his first three-point game of the season (1g, 2a)

Saturday, Jan. 29, Fort Wayne Komets 2 at Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 1

The Komets sweep the double-header visit at Bossier-Shreveport. Kevin Reiter earned his second straight win in his third straight start. Winger P.C. Drouin skated his 400th Fort Wayne career game since starting with the Komets in 2004-05.

Sunday, Jan. 30, Fort Wayne Komets 3 at Texas Brahmas 2, OT

The Komets sweep the three-game southern road tour with their seventh straight road win. First ever meeting and only meeting of the season at Texas. Right wing Derek Patrosso dished two assists for points in each game played for the week and finished the week riding a current CHL-high seven-game point and assist-scoring streak. Center Mathieu Curadeau scored the game winner in OT for this first game-winning goal of the season. Goalie Nick Boucher registered his fourth straight road win.

Friday, Feb. 4, Wichita Thunder (23-15-3, 49 points) at Fort Wayne Komets (16-18-5, 37 points), 8pm ET

Saturday, Feb. 5, Wichita Thunder at Fort Wayne Komets, 7:30pm ET

The Komets return home to host the Wichita Thunder (23-15-3, 49 points) Friday night at 8:00 and again Saturday at 7:30pm. This is the only visit to Fort Wayne by the Thunder this season. The K's have a score to settle after suffering a 5-1 loss to Wichita in the only trip to Kansas of the season Dec. 10. The Thunder are unbeaten in their last eight games (7-0-1) and are coming off a pair of road wins at Dayton last weekend. The Turner Conference rivals enter this week trailing first place Colorado and Rapid City by three points. Wichita will be idle this week before making the trip to Fort Wayne Friday. The Thunder's game originally scheduled at Missouri this Tuesday has been postponed to March 22 due to the expected inclement weather near the Kansas City area.

COMCAST REPORT CARD NIGHT for 2011 is this Saturday -- The 2011 Comcast Report Card Night will be Saturday, Feb. 5 when the Komets host Wichita at 7:30pm. Students with an "A" or "A equivalent" on a report card or teacher letter receives a free ticket to the game and Comcast makes a donation to the Literacy Alliance for every "A" student who attends.

Komets FRONTIER sighting -- Fans can meet mascot Icy Eagle and Komets Leo Thomas and Brandon Warner at the Frontier Fios location on Coldwater Road Saturday, Feb. 5, from 10am-noon while checking out the Frontier Fios Specials. The Frontier location is in the Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts Plaza.
