Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
THE SKINNY: The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (17-23-3) start the month of February hosting the defending President Cup Champion's Rapid City Rush. The Bees are coming of a weekend split with the Texas Brahmas winning the Friday night game 5-3 before falling on Saturday night 5-4. Rapid City will be the fourth Turner Conference foe for the Bees this season, they are 1-3 against the Turner Conference thus far.
Darcy Campbell and Aaron Lee have been pacing the Bees on the offensive side of the puck as of late. Campbell has eight points in his last five games while Lee has five points in his last three outings. Lee currently leads the Bees with a three-game goal streak.
The Killer Bees are in the midst of a six-game home stand in which by its completion will have welcomed four different CHL franchises to the Hive including Allen, Laredo, Texas and Rapid City. Rapid City has the longest trip to the Valley this season located 1,490 miles away. Fort Wayne is the only franchise further but they do not make the trek to the Valley this season.
BEES NEED TO KNOW:
. Dan Gendur has once again returned to the Killer Bees. Gendur has been well traveled this season and is currently on his third stint as a member of the Bees. Gendur, who is under contract with the Nashville Predators of the NHL, has spent significant time with the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League in addition to the Bees.
. Not quite road warriors, the Killer Bees have only eight games remaining away from State Farm Arena this season. The Bees will skate the Hive ice 15 more times this season including eight times in February.
. The Bees lead the Laredo Bucks 15 points to 13 in the first-ever Cricket Mayor's Cup which is awarded to the team with the most points against the other. The teams have three games left.
. The Bees completed their first trade of the season on Jan. 15 acquiring defenseman Dominic D'Amour from the Missouri Mavericks and sending center Sean Muncy to Missouri. Just two days later the Bees completed a second trade sending blueliner Jake Obermeyer to the Evansville IceMen for forward Bo Cheesman.
. Zak McClellan, who was named captain at the start of the season, tied the Killer Bees all-time record for shorthanded goals with eight, Jan. 5 against Arizona
