
Komets Snag Four Points for Week 17

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets improved to 25-20-2 and 52 points after 47 games and gained four points as they claimed two out of three games played for the week. The Komets narrowed the margin to within six points of Cincinnati in the race to the top of the North Division.
The Komets began week 17 with a 2-1 win at Kalamazoo Wednesday and reached 50 points. It was the Komets' second straight win as they completed January with an 8-5-0 record for the month, topping last year's January record of 5-6-1. The Komets followed with a 5-1 home setback Friday in the second half of a home-and-home series against the Wings. It was the 13th meeting for the two teams with three meetings remaining and the Komets leading the season series 7-5-1.
Saturday the Komets slammed the visiting Cincinnati Cyclones 7-2 to take a 4-3-0 season series lead over the North Division leaders. The Komets matched their season-high marks of seven goals in a game and four goals in a period. Two meetings remain, one at Fort Wayne and one at Cincinnati.
Down the stretch -Eight weeks and 25 games remain of the 72-game 2012-13 ECHL campaign for the Komets. A dozen home games remain and 13 road games remain. So far the Komets are 11-13-0 (22 points) at home and 14-7-2 (30 points) on the road. The Komets have meetings with 11 different teams remaining including division rivals Kalamazoo (3), Cincinnati (2), Evansville (4) and Toledo (4). Games remaining against additional Eastern Conference rivals include Wheeling (1), Florida (2), Greenville (1), Reading (1), South Carolina (2) and Elmira (2). Colorado (3) is the only Western Conference team the Komets face this season with all three scheduled games to be played this week at Colorado.
The players -Right wing Thomas Beauregard finished the week riding a four-game point streak (2g, 2a). Beauregard scored his 200th ECHL career point (regular season and playoffs) scoring the first goal of Wednesday's 2-1 win at Kalamazoo.....Goaltender Kenny Reiter posted his seventh road win Wednesday at Kalamazoo making 36 saves on 37 shots before being recalled to Bridgeport of the American Hockey League.....forward Matt Syroczynski appeared in his first game with the Komets Friday at home against Kalamazoo since capturing the 2010 IHL Playoff MVP with the Komets. Syroczynski contributed to the Komets' 7-2 home win against Cincinnati Saturday with his first goal of the season......Saturday's 7-2 home win also featured netminder Charlie Effinger's second straight appearance and first start since Jan. 12 as he registered his eighth win of the season, forwards John Dunbar and Matt Firman scored their first career three-point games and right wing Kaleigh Schrock reached his 100th regular season career point (assist).
Leaders of the week -Dunbar led with three assists and four points.....Beauregard and Firman each scored two goals and added an assist for three-point weeks.....center Eric Giosa tallied a goal and two assists....Effinger appeared in two games posting a 1-0-0 record, 2.33 goals-against average and .929 save percentage and contributed in his win Saturday with his first assist of the season.
Leaders of the pack -Marino 38 assists and 52 points....Beauregard 16 goals.....Daniel Maggio (D) 147 penalty minutes.....Maggio and Kishel +8.....Reiter 14-7-0, 2.72 goals-against average, .916 save percentage.
By the numbers -The Komets kept their opponents to two goals or less in their two wins of the week and are 8-1-0 when allowing two or less goals in a game. The Komets are 10-0-0 when leading after one period, 14-2-1 when taking the lead into the third period and 16-5-1 when following a loss.
The week ahead -The Komets head for Windsor, Colorado this week to skate a three-game series against the Eagles at the Budweiser Events Center (5,289). The Eagles are skating their second season in the ECHL after being a member of the Central Hockey League (CHL). While members of the CHL during 2010-11, the Komets posted a 1-1-1 record against the Eagles in three meetings. The Komets are 10-7-3 all time when skating against league members from the Denver area. The Komets and Eagles faceoff in the only meetings of the season Wednesday, Friday and Saturday this week with all games starting at 9:05pm Fort Wayne time (ET).
Komet legends to skate at Toledo -The Komet Legends will skate an exhibition at Toledo against the Toledo Alumni Sunday, Feb. 17 prior to the ECHL game between the Komets and the Toledo Walleye at Huntington Center in downtown Toledo. The legends game will start at 2pm and the Komets-Walleye match will faceoff at 5:05pm. Among the Komet legends schedule to appear are Kevin Bertram, Kelly Perrault, Ron Leef, Martin Burgers, John Hilworth, Steve Fletcher, Carey Lucyk, Adam Lewis, Dan Price, Chad Dameworth, Doug Rigler, Dale Baldwin, Kelly Hurd and Bob and Bobby Phillips. Serving behind the bench as coaches will be Robbie Irons, George Drysdale, Reg Primeau and Chuck Adamson. The Toledo Walleye are offering a special ticket price of $13 for both games for Komet fans. - Saturday Komets at Colorado Eagles, 9:05pm ET -The Komets face the Eagles at Colorado for a three-game series at the Budweiser Events Center this week. It's the only meetings of the season between the two ECHL teams and the only time each team plays outside of its conference. Each of the games Wednesday, Friday and Saturday will faceoff at 9:05pm ET. It's also the only Western Conference tilts schedule for Fort Wayne this year. The Eagles are also fighting for playoff position. While the Komets (52 points) trail North Division leader Cincinnati by six points after 47 games, Colorado trails Mountain Division leader Alaska by 22 points after 45 games. The top eight teams overall in each conference qualify for the ECHL playoffs. Currently the Komets hold seventh place in the East while Colorado has the fifth-best record in the West. The Eagles are coming off two wins over the weekend at Bakersfield and are 3-2-0 in their last five games while 6-9-0 in their last 15.
