Walleye Notes
- This Past Week! Toledo started the week in Cincinnati with hard fought 2-0 win. Goaltender Kent Simpson stopped all 20 shots he faced for the win. Friday night in Toledo, forward Joey Martin collected a pair of goals to lead the Walleye to a 4-1 win over Elmira. The week ended on Saturday with an extremely physical game and a 2-1 win for Toledo. Travis Novak scored a shorthanded goal late in the second period for the game winner.
- Sizzling Simpson! Goaltender Kent Simpson is enjoying the best stretch of his young career. The 20 year old goaltender has won his last four starts allowing a total of three goals. His goal against average over that span is .75 and his save percentage is .972 as he has denied 108 of the last 111 shots faced. Since the start of January, Simpson has a 5-2-0-1 record, a 1.87 GAA and a .929 SVP.
- On a Run! With its weekend sweep, Toledo has extended the winning streak to five consecutive games. It also the longest winning streak for a Walleye team since January 15-23 in the 2010-11 season. The longest such run in Walleye history is 8 consecutive games set back in December of 2009 (15-27).
- Defense is the Key! Since a 4-3 loss on January 12 at Florida, Toledo has allowed just 11 goals in the last eight games. In six of those games, the Walleye held their opponent to one goal or less. Toledo has won seven of those eight games. For the season, Toledo has allowed 124 goals in 47 games for an average of 2.64 per game. Only Alaska (2.60) and Gwinnett (2.59) have allowed fewer goals per game than the Walleye.
- Gametime! Toledo will return to the road for a pair of games down south. The first is Thursday night in Greenville. Toledo lost both games played so far this season in Greenville. On Saturday, the Walleye will skate in South Carolina against the Stingrays. Toledo lost a 2-1 game to South Carolina in the only prior meeting back on November 11th.
