Komets post six-point week

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets won 3 out of 4 games during the 18th week of play and improved to 33-14-2 for 68 points and continue to lead the UHL's Western Conference after 49 games.

The week started with a 4-2 home win Wednesday night against Port Huron. Friday the Komets extended their home win string to 5 games stopping the visiting Kalamazoo Wings 5-4 in a shootout. It was also the Komet's 9th straight win.

Saturday the Komets traveled to Bloomington and dropped a 4-2 decision to establish a new Komet UHL team high 9-game winning streak. Komet goaltender Kevin St. Pierre suffered the loss which stopped his personal winning streak at 9 games. St. Pierre also was unbeaten in regulation 11 straight games.

Sunday the Komet turned back the Wings at Kalamazoo 3-2 for their 4th straight win over the Wings. The Komets are also unbeaten by Kalamazoo in regulation 6 straight games.

This week the Komets continue their rugged February pace with 4 games in 5 nights for the second consecutive week. Wednesday the Komets travel to Chicago for an 8:30pm start. It will be the 8th of 11 meetings this season with the Komets leading the series 4-3-0 after winning the last 2 meetings, both at Chicago. The Hounds clipped the Komets 3-2 in their last visit to Fort Wayne Jan. 14. Chicago is coming off a 5-4 shootout loss at Port Huron Sunday and is 2-3-1 in their last 6 and 5-4-1 in their last 10 games.

Friday the Komets visit Quad City at 8pm for their 3rd straight visit to the Mark of the Quad Cities. It's the 6th of 11 meetings this year as the Komets lead the series 4-1-0. The Komets shutout the Mallards 3-0 at Quad City in their last meeting Jan. 6. The Mallards snapped a 4-game winning streak with a 3-2 shootout loss to Bloomington Sunday in their last game played. Quad City will host Rockford Wednesday before entertaining the Komets Friday.

The Komets return home Saturday for a 7:30pm faceoff against the Chicago Hounds. It will be the 4th of 5 visits by Chicago with the Komets holding a 2-1-0 edge over the Hounds in 3 previous meeting at Fort Wayne.

Sunday the Komets host the Prairie Thunder from Bloomington at 5pm. It's the 4th of 5 visits by Bloomington. The Komets are unbeaten by the Prairie Thunder in 3 home meetings this year and lead the series 5-2-0. Bloomington skates at Flint Friday and Port Huron Saturday before traveling to Fort Wayne Sunday.

Leaders.....center J.C. Ruid continues to lead the Komets with 29 goals, 13 power play goals and improved to 2nd overall in the UHL with 62 points.....Guy Dupuis (D) leads with 39 assists and leads all UHL scorers with 27 power play assists.....David Hukalo (RW) tops the team with +14.....Kevin St. Pierre leads all UHL goalies for the second straight week with an overall goals-against average of 2.24 and .927 save percentage. St. Pierre also leads UHL goaltenders with 4 shutouts and 2544:49 minutes....Mario Larocque leads UHL defensemen with 16 goals and 10 power play goals.

Komet streaks: goaltender Dan McWhinney registered his 3rd straight road win Sunday 3-2 at Kalamazoo making 26 saves on 28 shots in his only start of the week.....goalie Kevin St. Pierre's 5-4 shootout win over Kalamazoo Friday night was his 6th straight home win. St. Pierre's winning streak was stopped at 9 games Saturday night at Bloomington. The Komets are riding a 5-game home win streak and set a new Komet UHL winning streak of 9 games before the streak ended Saturday night at Bloomington.

Milestones: David Hukalo (RW) registered his 100th career point Wednesday vs Port Huron....Bogdan Rudenko (RW) skated his 500th career game Wednesday vs Port Huron.....Kevin St. Pierre (G) appeared in his 200th Fort Wayne career game Wednesday vs Port Huron.....Jonathan Goodwin (RW) dressed his 200th career game Saturday at Bloomington.
