
Komets improve to record best 19-8-3 after 30

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets completed week 10 of the 2004-05 UHL campaign with their best record ever after the first 30 games of a UHL season. For the past 3 consecutive seasons, 2001-02, 2002-03 and 2003-04, the Komets posted an identical .633 point percentage and 38 points after the first 30 games of each season. This year, however, the Komets improved their UHL best record after 30 to 19-8-3 for a .683 point percentage and 41 points. The Komets are on pace for their best December in the UHL with an 8-1-2 record (18 points, .818 point percentage) after 11 games with 6 games remaining.
Leading the way in December.....after 11 games, winger Sean Venedam is leading the Komets in December with 3 hat tricks, 14 goals (4ppg), 18 points and a +15. Center Colin Chaulk also leads with 16 assists and 18 points. The Komet's defense has surrendered only 20 goals while the offense has netted 48. Goaltender Tyler Masters is 5-1-2 in 8 appearances with a 2.02 goals against average, .922 save percentage and 2 shutouts. Veteran netminder Kevin St. Pierre made 3 appearances before being listed on the injured reserve list going 3-0-0, posting a 1.33 goals against average, a .959 save percentage and 1 shutout.

Wednesday the Komets were turned back 5-4 in a shootout in Missouri. Sean Venedam posted his 2nd consecutive hat trick while Colin Chaulk passed 3 assists. Dustin Virag netted the other Komet goal of the game and Tyler Masters made 24 saves on 28 shots to remain unbeaten in regulation 6 straight games.
Friday the Komets welcomed the Richmond RiverDogs to their first visit in Fort Wayne of the season with a 9-4 rout. Venedam netted his 3rd straight hat trick and added an extra marker to make it his first 4-goal game ever as a Komet and set the record for the most goals scored by a player in a UHL game this season. It was also the first time in Fort Wayne Komet franchise history a player has scored hat tricks in 3 straight games. Rookie Jonathan Goodwin posted his first hat trick as a pro scoring the triple and adding 2 assists for his first career 5-point night. It marked the first time the Komets have netted 2 hat tricks in a single UHL game. Chaulk also registered his first 5-assist, 5-point game as a Komet and set the record for most assists by a player in a UHL game this season. Center Tom Nelson scored a pair and added 2 assists for a 4-point evening. Goalie Masters earned his 7th win of the season stopping 25 of 29 shots.
Saturday the Komets dropped a 2-0 decision to the visiting Rockford IceHogs. The Komets had previously won 8 straight games at home before the IceHogs evened the season series at 2-2-0. Masters backstopped the Komets in his 7th straight start making 21 saves on 22 shots.
This week the Komets will face the Western Conference rival IceHogs from Rockford again Wednesday night at the coliseum at 7:30 before a short Christmas break. Sunday the Komets are back in action on the road to face the Mallards at The Mark of the Quad Cities at 4pm Fort Wayne time. In a rare Monday Fort Wayne home game, the Komets will host the Kansas City Outlaws at 7:30pm.

Venedam's 4-goal outing Friday night ties the Komet's team record for most goals goals scored by a Komet in a UHL game.
Seldom on a Monday.....the Komet's rarely play a game on Monday, but have skated Monday games each of the last 4 seasons. Last year the Komets hosted the Kalamazoo Wings on Monday Apr. 19 for a playoff game (5-0 loss). Monday, Mar. 17, 2003, the Komets skated a green-ice St. Patrick's day game at Kalamazoo (4-1 win). Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, the Komets played their traditional New Year's eve game against Missouri (3-2 loss). And Monday, Apr. 16, 2001, the Komets played a playoff game at Quad City (5-2 loss).
This Monday, Dec. 27, the Komets will play their first ever regular-season non-holiday Monday UHL home game against the Kansas City Outlaws at 7:30pm. It will be the 3rd of 4 visits to Fort Wayne by the Outlaws this season (1-1-0). The Komets lead the series 2-1-0.
