Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo started the week on Wednesday, December 15th, as they hosted the Richmond RiverDogs. Richmond's Trevor Senn (1,2) helped the ‘Dogs jump out to an early 2-0 lead by scoring the game's first two goals. In the second period, Kalamazoo answered back with a power play goal from David Struch (7) to make the score 2-1 in favor of Richmond. Later in the period, Richmond came back with another goal, this time it was David Brosseau (10) that lit the lamp to extend the RiverDogs lead to 3-1. The K-Wings rallied back in the third period. Forward Yannick Carpentier (8,9) scored two unanswered goals, including the game tying goal with 53 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game 3-3. The game went into a shootout and in the extra session, it would be the RiverDogs that would out score the K-Wings 2-0 and go on to win by the final of 4-3.

On Friday (12/17), the K-Wings remained at home for a date with their intra-state rivals the Muskegon Fury. Muskegon's Clayton Pool was the game's difference, stopping all 31 shots he faced, as Muskegon went on to defeat Kalamazoo by the final of 3-0. The shutout was the second of Pool's career.

Kalamazoo was back in action on Saturday (12/18), as they hosted Richmond during the 5th Annual WOTV, WKFR Teddy Bear Toss Night. Like their first meeting of the week, the RiverDogs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead; however, the rest of the night belonged to the K-Wings. Kalamazoo exploded for five unanswered goals, including a goal from Mike Manley (1), which was his first of his professional career. The goal from Manley capped off a three point night from the rookie. Manley wasn't the only rookie stepping up for K-Wings. Defenseman Josh Elzinga earned his first assist of his professional career and recently acquired forward Tim Krueckl recorded his first goal with Kalamazoo and is third overall in the K-Wings 5-2 victory over the RiverDogs.

The K-Wings ended the week on Sunday (12/19) with a road trip to Muskegon. After giving up the first two goals of the game, the K-Wings answered back in the third period with a goal from Krueckl (4) that cut the Fury lead to 2-1. Later in the period, Muskegon's Scott Hollis (4) beat Chad Alban for a power play goal, which proved to be the game winner. The relentless K-Wings continued to battle in the final stanza and once again cut the Fury lead to a single goal, when Tyler Willis scored his 6th goal of season from just inside the left circle to make the score 3-2 in favor of Muskegon. The Fury added a late empty late to defeat the K-Wings 4-2.
