
Mallards Make First Trip to Kalamazoo

Moline, IL â The Mallards beat Kansas City on Saturday night to move to 12-12-3 on the season. The Mallards went 1-2-0 last week with the win in Kansas City and a home loss to Port Huron and a road loss to Missouri. This week, the Mallards are in Kalamazoo for a game vs. the Wings. Following the holidays, the Mallards are back on home ice for a showdown with the Fort Wayne Komets.

The Mallards take to the ice for their last game before Christmas on Wednesday in Kalamazoo. The teams have not met this year. Last season, the Mallards won five of nine meetings with the Wings. All-time, the Mallards hold a 23-13-3 mark vs. the Wings. The First Capital Financial Pre-Game Show starts at 5:35 p.m. from Kalamazoo. It's Genesis Stick Giveaway Night! The Mallards and Genesis are teaming up to give away 2,500 hockey sticks to fans that attend the Mallards game with Fort Wayne. The match-up marks the third meeting of the year between the two squads with each team winning once in the previous contests. Tonight, the Mallards are back at The Blackbear Lounge at The Lodge for Duck Talk beginning at 7 p.m. This week's guests are Marty Standish, Dave Stewart and Justin Brown along with coach Paul Gillis. Duck Talk can also be heard on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230.

The Mallards and Komets meet for the third time this year on Sunday at The MARK. The Mallards dropped a Thanksgiving showdown with the Komets on November 25th in Fort Wayne. Quad City rebounded to beat the Komets 4-1 on November 27th at The MARK.

The Beacons seized a 3-0 lead just past the midway point of the second period before the game's final period and a half went scoreless. Trevor Edwards, Gabriel Proulx and Joe Sewell scored in the Beacons victory.
Friday, December 17-Quad City 1 at Missouri 2
The Mallards suffered a heartbreaking defeat on Friday in Missouri. The Otters claimed a 1-0 lead after two periods despite being outplayed by the Mallards. Patrick Nadeau tied the game at one with his first goal of the season at the 8:03 mark of the third. Missouri's Justin Quenneville won the game by poking a rebound past Jeff Reynaert with 4:54 left in the game.
Saturday, December 18-Quad City 4 at Kansas City 1
A pair of Mike Kompon goals sparked the offense as the Mallards captured a 4-1 win over Kansas City. Drew Otten started the scoring with his sixth marker of the year at 5:23 of the first period. Kompon recorded his first goal seven minutes later to give the Mallards a 2-0 lead. Bill Zalba's power-play goal 6:56 into the second cut the Mallards lead to one. The Mallards answered back with two power-play goals of their own (Jason Lehoux and Kompon) to secure the 4-1 win.
Player of the Week
Mike Kompon is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week for a second consecutive week. Kompon had two goals and an assist in the Mallards three games last week.
Goaltender of the Week
Jeff Reynaert is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. Reynaert stopped 86 of 92 shots for a .934 save percentage on the week. The Mallards netminder also recorded a 2.01 goals against average in three appearances.
