TRASHERS WEEK IN REVIEW
TRASHERS WIN IN SHOOTOUT FOR 2ND STRAIGHT NIGHT--DANBURY ON A FOUR-GAME WINNING STREAK!
December 18, 2004
After winning in the longest shootout in UHL history (21 rounds) the night before, the Danbury Trashers tried their luck in the extra-session for the second night in a row. Their luck held out, and they defeated the Elmira Jackals 3-2, with a shoot out on Satursday night at the Danbury Ice Arena.
The game looked like it would end 2-1 in regulation, when Elmira's Jason Sessa scored from Jeff Antonovich and Jamie Thomspon with a second on the clock.
The goal scorers for Danbury during the shootout were Blake Bellefeuille, John Morlang and Mike Bayrack consecutively, while Sessa had the only shoot out goal for Elmira, followed by misses from Jamie Thompson, Jeff Antonovich and George Pujacs.
Danbury opened the scoring with Jeff Daw's eighth of the year, from Brent Gretzky and Doug Christiansen at 1:02. The goal cued the Trashers' Teddy Bear Toss, as fans threw plush toys on the ice in celebrations. The toys will go to a number of local children's charities.
Dean Jackson tied things up for the Jackals at 12:17, on a goal from Antonovich and Chris Shaw. Bruce Richardson's goal, to give Danbury a 2-1 lead, was the only scoring of the second period.
Newest Trasher, Stephen Peat dropped the gloves in a short bout with Charlie Elezi in the second period. Peat sent Elezi to the ice with a haymaker.
All goals were scored at even strength, Danbury 0-for-3 on the power play, Elmira 0-for-4.
Danbury netminder Scott Stirling stopped 22-of-24 shots sent his way, and three-of-four overtime shooters. His Jackals counterpart, Greg Hewitt turned aside 31-of-33, and 0-for-3 during the shootout.

When playing blackjack, 21 is a lucky number. When playing a shootout, the number 21 is not so lucky'unless you're Mike Bayrack.
In a game that was tied 5-5 after the 3rd period on Friday night, the Danbury Trashers and Elmira Jackals engaged in a UHL record 21 round shootout in which the Trashers finally prevailed when Mike Bayrack scored on his 3rd shootout attempt to cap off a 6-5 win.
Danbury trailed 2-0 after one period as Long Island native Jason Sessa tallied a pair of goals off of Scott Stirling, who won despite stopping only 19-24 shots over three periods.
The Trashers erupted in the 2nd period with four unanswered goals by Bayrack, Jeff Daw, Brian Herbert, and Bayrack again. Jaime Thompson scored for Elmira with 29 seconds left in the period to make it 4-3 Danbury after two periods.
Jeff Antonovich then scored two power play goals in the 3rd to regain Elmira's lead, but Mario Larocque blasted his 3rd of the season to tie the game at the 7:12 mark of the period.
The shootout featured Stirling stopping 19 of 21 shots from Elmira skaters, while Bruce Richardson, Blake Bellefeuille and Bayrarck scored off of Greg Hewitt of Elmira.
