January 5, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Fort Wayne Komets News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets completed week 12 of 2008-09 gaining six points in five games to improve to 17-11-1-3 and 38 points. The Komets will begin the first full week of the 2009 portion of the slate in third place in the IHL, four points behind front-runner Kalamazoo.

The Komets skated five games last week on the tail end of a season-longest stretch of eight games in 10 nights. The week started with a shootout in Fort Wayne Monday against Kalamazoo that needed 14 rounds to complete, a new Fort Wayne franchise record. After overtime didn't produce a winner, Kalamazoo outscored the Komets in the shootout 4-3 to grab the win by the same score.

Wednesday the Komets welcomed in the new year with a 6-2 win over the visiting Flint Generals. The sell-out crowd of 10,511 watched the Komets improve to 35-13-3-1. It was the Komets' 52nd New year's Eve home game since the tradition began in 1955.

Friday the Komets clipped the Icehawks at Port Huron 2-1 for the first Fort Wayne overtime win of the season. Defenseman Guy Dupuis netted the game winner for the Komet's first overtime goal of the season.

Saturday the Komets were doubled-up in Kalamazoo 4-2 to extend their winless streak against the Wings to five games.

Sunday the Komets finished the week at Flint on the short end of a 7-6 shootout.

This week the Komets will host three home games in four nights starting Wednesday when Port Huron visits for a 7:30pm faceoff. Wednesday is Season Ticket Exchange Night number two. Fans can exchange unused season tickets from previous games of the season for tickets to this Wednesday night's game.

Friday the Komets welcome Flint to town for an 8pm faceoff. Fans can use their Marathon fill-up cards to get free tickets. Fill up cards are available at all area participating Marathon stations. Two fill-ups on a card get fans a buy-one, get-one-free ticket offer.

Saturday the Bloomington PrairieThunder visit at 7:30pm to finish the week.

Looking ahead to next week, the Komets will skate a rare 10:30am game at Muskegon Tuesday, Jan. 13. There will be no Fort Wayne radio broadcast of the game.

Drouin has been named the league's Pepsi Player of the Month and Komet netminder Tim Hahn has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Month for December, 2008. Drouin skated all 13 games during December leading the Komets with 13 assists, 19 points and +8 scoring points in 12 of the 13 games. The veteran had five multiple-point games and completed an IHL season-high point scoring streak of 12 games (5 goals, 13 assists) in December. Drouin was also named Player of the Week during the month for the week ending Dec. 14.

Hahn started five games posting a 3-1-0-1 record allowing 11 goals for a 2.17 goals-against average and stopped 124 of 135 shots for a .919 save percentage. The rookie netminder registered the Komets' only shutout of the season Dec. 26 against the visiting Bloomington PrairieThunder stopping all 25 shots faced for a 3-0 win in his first appearance with the Komets.

Game Change: The Komets IHL game originally scheduled for Feb.14 at Bloomington has been moved to Jan. 28. The game will faceoff at 7:05pm (8:05pm Fort Wayne time) at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
