Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

MUSKEGON, MI.--- As they get ready and get set to embark on the first full week of the new calendar year of 2009, the Muskegon Lumberjacks have achieved yet another honor seemingly ascribed to their stately status as the highest-scoring team in the IHL.

On this date, the International Hockey League, in concert with the Lumberjacks, has announced that left wing CHAD WOOLLARD has been named the PEPSI / IHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK for the week of December 29th through January 4th.

WOOLLARD, 29, has been on a veritable scoring rampage in recent team Lumberjacks action and it has become especially pronounced and prominent to the point where it has reached crescendo constellation.

The 10-year pro from Durham, Ontario emerged at the focal point of another outstanding week for the Lumberjacks in which Muskegon compiled a superb 4(3-1-0) mark in culminating a strenuous stretch consisting of 7-games in 9-nights. During his team's ambitious 4-games' work week, Woollard sizzled 6-goals in engineering 7-total points, 22-SOG and +1 rating. Moreover, included in his goal-scoring scourge for the week were 2-FG, 3-PPG, 2-GTG, 2-TBG, 1-GWG, one 3-goal "hat trick" and one 2-goal enormous performance.

Acclaimed the #1 Star last Tuesday night, December 30th, the 6-3, 210lb sharpshooter triggered his first "hat trick" of the season, which included the FG/PPG and then 2-unanswered third period strikes as he singularly eradicated a ‘Jacks 3-2 deficit in a 4-3 Muskegon comeback triumph at the expense of rival Bloomington. After delivering the GTG New Year's Eve in Kalamazoo, he cannonaded two more strikes the past Friday night at Bloomington in his team's 5-4 verdict over the Prairie Thunder. In that one, Woollard caged the FG/PPG before delivering the TBG/PPG.

In his last 8-games, Woollard has fired 11-goals while adding 2-assists for 13-points with 5-PPG and 4-multiple goal games in that span.

For the season, his 8-PPG tie him for the IHL league-leadership and his 18-goals tie him for the Lumberjacks team lead. He also tops his team in SOG for the season with 107.

The heralding of Woollard as Pepsi / IHL Player of the Week marks the fifth time a Lumberjacks player has been so honored. Previously, center Todd Robinson has earned the league-wide distinguished accolades on a trio of occasions and left wing Luke Stauffacher has achieved such plaudits once.

The Lumberjacks launch an extended 5-game home stand beginning this Friday night, January 9th when they collide with second place Port Huron, the best road team in the league. Saturday night, the torrid, league-leading Kalamazoo Wings come to town for a rekindling of animosities between two long-time archrivals. Game time for both games is 7:00 pm at Walker Arena.
