IHL names monthly honorees

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Fort Wayne left wing P.C. Drouin has been named the Pepsi IHL Player of the Month, Kalamazoo forward Rick Cleaver has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Month, and Fort Wayne goaltender Tim Haun has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Month for December.

Drouin wrapped up the month of December scoring 19 points (6g, 13a) and a plus-eight rating in 13 games played. He posted points in 12 of the 13 games played, including having five multi-point games. He had his league-high 12-game point streak snapped on December 27th in the Komets 4-2 loss in Port Huron. During the streak, Drouin registered five goals and 13 assists (18 points). The 34-year-old St. Lambert, Quebec native currently leads the Komets in scoring with 47 points (20g, 27a) and plus/minus rating of plus-12. Drouin's 47 points ties him for second among all IHL players in scoring with Flint's Steve Rymsha.

Other players nominated for the Pepsi IHL Player of the Month include: Bloomington forward Jon Booras, Flint forward Steve Rymsha, Kalamazoo left wing Anthony Battaglia, Muskegon left wing Chad Woollard and Port Huron defenseman Daniel Tetrault.

Cleaver completed his second full month of his rookie campaign with the K-Wings scoring eight goals and dishing out seven assists (15 points) in 12 games played. He notched in points in all nine of the K-Wings wins during the month of December, including four multi-point contests. The 25-year-old Port McNeill, British Columbia native is currently leading all IHL rookies in goals scored (13), is second among rookies in overall points (28) and is tied for second in assists with Fort Wayne's Rick Varone (15). Cleaver is also tied with teammate Mark Nebus for the IHL's best plus/minus rating with a plus-18.

Other players nominated for the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Month include: Bloomington forward Jeff Rainville, Flint defenseman Kyle Deck, Fort Wayne defenseman Brandon Warner, Muskegon right wing Chad Costello and Port Huron defenseman Derek Merlini.

Haun finished his first full month as a Komet posting a 3-1-0-1 record. He had a 2.17 goals against average and a.919 save percentage, making a total of 124 saves in the month of December. The 28-year-old Solsgirth, Manitoba native won his first start as a Komet on December 12th versus Bloomington when he shutout the PrairieThunder, closing the door on all 25 shots he faced. Haun played just over 303 minutes in five games, only allowing 11 goals scored against him during the month.

Other players nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Month include: Bloomington's Scott Fankhouser, Flint's Bill Zaniboni, Kalamazoo's Joel Martin, Muskegon's Clayton Pool and Port Huron's Larry Sterling.
