
K-Wings Enter New Year in First

ROCHESTER, MI--- Kalamazoo remains on top of the IHL standings, ringing in the New Year by winning all four contests played during the week. The K-Wings have won a league-high nine straight on home ice, where they have a 10-2-0-0 record. The K-Wings have the league's best winning percentage at 67.7% and are currently one point ahead of Port Huron, who has played two more games than Kalamazoo. The K-Wings are the only team in the IHL to have every player, including goaltenders, register at least one point so far this season.
Fort Wayne has had one of the busiest schedules lately, playing eight games in the last 10 days. The Komets went 4-1-0-3 during the stretch. Fort Wayne leads the IHL with the top penalty kill rating, registering an 87.4%, killing off 24 of 27 power plays (88.9%) in the five games played this week. The Komets are the IHL's second most penalized team, recording 820 penalty minutes in 32 games played. They have the highest average of penalty minutes per game, averaging 25.63 minutes.
Also being faced with a busy stretch, the Muskegon Lumberjacks played seven games in nine nights, posting a 4-2-1-0 record during those games played. They played a total of four games on the road, posting a 2-1-1-0 record, and three games at home, recording a 2-1-0-0 record. Muskegon currently is in fourth place with 36 points, but have played the fewest games in the league with 29. The Lumberjacks are tied for second with Port Huron (33 games played) in winning percentage with 62.1%.

Bloomington PrairieThunder - (0-3-1-0) - Jon Booras has scored at last one point in nine of the last 12 games. Marty Standish has scored nine points in his last 12 games and 14 of 20 games since joining the team November 21st. Jon Booras has scored at least one point in 19 of the 25 games he has played. He has scored at least one point in seven straight games after going a season-high three games without scoring a point. The PrairieThunder posted a 2-4-1 record in a grueling seven games in nine day stretch. The PrairieThunder are 5-1 when leading after the first period. Bloomington is 6-3 when leading after two periods, but only 2-15 when trailing after two periods.
Flint Generals - (1-3-0-0) - Of Steve Rymsha's four goals last weekend, two were power play and one was short-handed. Defenseman Dan McNeill scored his first pro goal in Port Huron on Saturday night. Defenseman A.J. Bozoian doubled his goal output for the season in one night, scoring twice in the Generals 7-6 shootout victory over Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon. In three of four games played, Flint allowed at least three goals against them in the first period. Flint was 2 for 17 on the power play, while killing off 10 of 16 short-handed situations. Goaltender Isaac Reichmuth made his first appearance and start for the Generals on Sunday afternoon against Fort Wayne since being claimed off waivers from Muskegon by Flint. Greg Bullock and Steve Rymsha have recorded six point weeks for the second consecutive week of action.
Fort Wayne Komets - (2-1-0-2) - The week started with a shootout in Fort Wayne Monday against Kalamazoo that included a new Fort Wayne franchise record 14 rounds. After overtime didn't produce a winner Kalamazoo outscored the Komets in the shootout 4-3 to take the game. Wednesday the Komets welcomed in the New Year with a 6-2 win over the visiting Flint Generals. The sell-out crowd of 10,511 watched Fort Wayne improve to 35-13-3-1 in 52 New Year's Eve home games since the tradition started in 1955. Friday the Komets clipped the Icehawks at Port Huron 2-1 for their first overtime win of the season. Saturday the Komets were doubled-up in Kalamazoo 4-2 to extend their winless streak against the Wings to five games. Sunday the Komets finished the week on the short end of a 7-6 shootout at Flint. Defenseman Brian Boulay scored his first pro goal Monday in the Komet's 4-3 shootout loss to Kalamazoo in Fort Wayne. Winger P.C. Drouin has a point-scoring streak of six games (4g, 5a). Defenseman Guy Dupuis has registered points in three straight games (2g, 3a). Rookie right win Sean O'Connor is riding a three-game point streak (2g, 1a).
Kalamazoo Wings - (4-0-0-0) - The K-Wings are on a four-game winning streak. Kalamazoo is on an IHL season-high nine-game home winning streak. Rick Cleaver is on a four-game point and goal streak. The goal streak ties a K-Wings season-high. Cleaver leads all rookies in goals scored with 13. Mark Nebus is on a seven-game point streak. The point streak ties a K-Wings season-high. Justin Cross and Glenn Detulleo are on four-game point streaks. Detulleo has scored points in nine of his last 10 games. Glenn has only been held scoreless in seven of the K-Wings 31 contests this season. Jason Tapp leads the league in save percentage at 0.905, with a minimum of 630 minutes played. Joel Martin has won his last four starts. Jordan Little is two games shy of 200 in his career. Kalamazoo continues to lead the league in goals (129), assists (214) and points (343).
Muskegon Lumberjacks - (3-1-0-0) - When the Lumberjacks defeated Bloomington Friday night, Muskegon presented head coach Bruce Ramsay with his 100th victory behind the Muskegon bench. The Lumberjacks best period on the road so far this season has been the third period, outscoring the opponent 27-16. The Lumberjacks have connected on six hat tricks this season and have a perfect record as a team when they accomplish the feat. Right wing Frank Littlejohn is currently on his second three-game goal streak of the season. Goaltender Clayton Pool has won three consecutive games and is 3-0-1-0 in his first four games of the season, posting a 2.86 goals against average and a .928 save percentage. Center Billy Collins is two games away from 300 professional games, all played in Muskegon. When either leading or tied after the second period, the Lumberjacks are undefeated thus far this season (15-0-1-0).
Port Huron Icehawks - (2-0-1-0) - The Icehawks extended their road winning streak to a league high six games with a win at Bloomington on Wednesday. They will look to extend their streak this week when they hit the road for a three game road trip. The Icehawks currently hold the league's best road record at 11-5-0-0. The Icehawks were successful on the power play last week, scoring with the man advantage in all three games and finishing the week with four power play goals in a total of ten opportunities. They are now ranked first in the league on the power play both on the road (17-78; 21.8%) and overall (34-157; 21.7%). Goalie Larry Sterling has started the last seven consecutive games for Port Huron and is an impressive 5-1-1-0 in that stretch. He leads the league in minutes played with 1443:11 and is ranked second in total wins with 14. The Icehawks will get familiar with several of their rivals this month. They meet Fort Wayne a total of five times in January and face Flint four times this month. Port Huron is -3-3-1-0 in the season series with Fort Wayne and leads the season series with Flint 6-3-0-0.
