Sterling Named IHL Goaltender of the Week

PORT HURON, MI - Port Huron Icehawks goalie Larry Sterling was named the International Hockey League Goaltender of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 4, the league announced Monday.

Sterling finished the week unbeaten in regulation with an overall record of 2-1-0-0 and just six goals against. He led his team to a 3-1 victory versus Bloomington on Wednesday and a 7-3 win over Flint on Saturday. He also made 23 saves and played 64:31 minutes in Friday's 2-1 overtime loss versus Fort Wayne. He finished the week with a total of 75 saves, a .926 save percentage and a 1.95 goals against average.

The 25-year old native of Lake Orion, MI has led his team during a hot streak with a record of 9-3-1-0 in his last 13 games played. He has started the last seven consecutive games for Port Huron and is an impressive 5-1-1-0 in that stretch. He leads the league in minutes played with 1443:11 and is ranked second in total wins with 14. He holds a record of 14-9-1-0 on the season with a 3.08 goals against average and a .890 save percentage.

This is Sterling's first league honor this season. He was named Goalie of the Week four times in the 2007-08 season.
