Komets extend win streak to six games

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets extended their win string to 6 games after taking all 3 games played during week 4 of the 2006-07 season. Fort Wayne's record improves to 7-1-0 for the best Komet start since the K's earned a 7-0-1 record after the first 8 games of the 2001-02 season. The Komets continue to top the UHL's Western Division after 4 weeks of play.

Friday the Komets clipped the Mallards at Quad City 3-2 in a shootout win. Bogdan Rudenko (RW) and J.C. Ruid (LW) tallied goals for the Komets in regulation as Kevin St. Pierre stopped 35 of 37 Mallards shots. Ruid, Martin Gascon (C) and Bruce Richardson (C) each scored in the shootout while St. Pierre stopped 3 of 4 Quad City shots for the win.

Saturday the Komets returned home to stone the Port Huron Flags 6-0 to remain unbeaten in the first 4 home games of the season. It was Kevin St. Pierre's first shutout of the season and 31st of his career making 34 saves in the match. The shutout was St. Pierre's record 19th Komet career shutout and a UHL career record 22nd shutout. It was also St. Pierre's 6th straight victory. Ruid notched the Komet's first hat trick of the season and added an assist for a 4-point evening. K.C. Voorhees (RW), Mario Larocque (D) and Mike Dombkiewicz (D) added a goal each.

Sunday the Komets stopped the Generals in Flint 4-3 in a shootout for their 6th straight win. Rookie netminder Dan McWhinney earned the win in his first pro game by making 25 saves in regulation while stoning the Generals on 4 attempts in the shootout. Defenseman Mario Larocque registered the hat trick scoring all 3 Komet goals in regulation and becoming only the second Fort Wayne defenseman to score a hat trick in a Komet UHL game. Frederic Bouchard recorded hat tricks with the Komets twice, 10/21/00 at Adirondack and 3/2/01 vs. Kalamazoo.

This week the Komets travel to Kalamazoo for a 7:30pm faceoff at Wings Stadium Friday night. Saturday the Komets return home to host former Komet head coach Al Sims (IHL) and the Flint Generals.

St. Pierre UHL Goalie of the Week, again.....the UHL announced Monday that Komet goaltender Kevin St. Pierre has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the second straight week. For the week ending Nov. 5, St. Pierre finished with a 2-0-0 record, extending his win streak to 6 games, a 2.00 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage (69/71). St. Pierre also recorded his first shutout of the season and 31st of his career, establishing a new Komet franchise record of 19 shutouts and a UHL career record 22 shutouts. St. Pierre also tops UHL goalteders with a 2.15 goals-against average, 6 wins (6-1-0), .933 save percentage and 209 saves.

Komet Player of the Week nomination: J.C. Ruid (LW) 3gp, 4 goals (1 hat trick, 2ppg, 1fg, 1gwg), 2 shootout goals, 1 assist, 5 points, +3, 6-game point streak (7g, 6a). Leads UHL with 3 game winning goals.

Komet leaders.....J.C. Ruid (LW) 8 goals, 15 points, 3gwg.....Bruce Richardson (C) 12 assists.....Richardson +5, Mario Larocque (D) +5, leads UHL defensemen with 5 goals.....Kevin Hansen (D) 52 pim.

Special K's.....the Komets lead the UHL with 21 power play goals in 74 chances after 8 games for a league-best 28.4% rating. The Komets penalty is second best after surrendering only 8 power play goals in 70 times shorthanded for an 88.6% rating.

Streaking Komets......J.C. Ruid (LW) extended his point scoring streak to 6 games (7g, 6a).....Bogdan Rudenko (RW) pointed in each game of the week for a 3-game point streak (1g, 3a).....Kevin St. Pierre (G) is riding a 5 game winning streak.....Komets 4-game home win streak, 6-game win streak.

Looking for 500.....Komet center and assistant coach Bruce Richardson has appeared in 498 career games. Saturday could be number 500 when the Komets host Flint at 7:30pm.
