Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - On Saturday night, the rival Rapid City Rush and Fort Wayne Komets met for the fifth and final time of the 2011-12 regular season. The Komets picked up a 3-1 triumph, dealing the Rush their first home sweep since November of last season. The Rush now hit the road to face the Quad City Mallards before returning for a pair of home games against the Arizona Sundogs. Those contests are set for December 9th and 10th and tickets are available by calling 716-PUCK (7825) or online at www.gotmine.com.

The game's first goal was picked up 4:05 into the second period, signaling the latest first goal in a Rush game this season. After a turnover at the far blueline, Stephon Thorne broke into the Rapid City end and snuck a shot around Danny Battochio for the shorthanded tally.

The Komets doubled the lead at the 2:15 mark of the final period, capitalizing on another Rush defensive zone turnover when Bobby Chaumont slammed home a rebound from the front of the net. Rapid City finally got on the board when Mike Vaskivuo's centering pass found Sean Wiles who ripped home a shot for his second of the year. Despite numerous chances on net by the Rush, it was the Komets who regained the two goal lead and got the eventual win when defenseman Brent Henley cut to the net and redirected a pass in for the 3-1 final.
