Killer Bees Fall in Shootout, 3-2

HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (10-6-1) fell to the Arizona Sundogs (8-9-3) by a 3-2 score on Saturday night. Reid Edmondson scored his first goal of the season and Trevor Hunt also registered a point in his first game playing for the Bees. The game went into overtime and then a shootout where the Sundogs secured the win.

The Bees took an early 1-0 lead thanks to a goal made by Edmondson at 1:45 into the first period. Adam Bartholomay fed the puck to Edmondson from behind the net and gave Edmondson the chance to fire it in from the slot. Jake Hauswirth also assisted the goal.

Levente Szuper was in the net for the Sundogs for only 6:27 during the first period and then left the ice due to an apparent injury. Scott Reid took over as goaltender for the remainder of the night.

The Sundogs remained scoreless in the first period.

In the second period, Dan Gendur took the feed from Tomas Klempa and fired one past Reid adding to the Bees lead. Hunt and Brandon Campos assisted the goal. Less than a minute afterward, Adam Smith got one back with an unassisted goal. The Bees defense was able to kill off two Sundogs two-man advantages, the first for 28 seconds and the second for 35 seconds.

The third period was quiet until the Sundogs tied the game with a power play goal with only 4:06 left in the period.

The game was sent into overtime tied at 2-2, and then went into a shootout. Shawn Morton-Boutin scored the game winning goal for the Sundogs.

Wylie Rogers made 34 saves in the net.
