Komets Collect Three Points in Arizona; Visit Quad City Friday

Fort Wayne, IN | Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 --- The Komets earned three points in a split (1-0-1)of the two games played at Arizona Friday and Saturday in week two of the 2010-11 CHL campaign.

Friday the Komets and Sundogs battled into extra time with Arizona finishing on top with a 2-1 overtime win. Saturday at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley the Komets solved the Sundogs 2-1 in regulation for their first win of the season. All six goals scored in the double-header in Arizona were on the power play.

Friday night winger Derek Patrosso initiated the scoring with a Fort Wayne marker with two minutes remaining in the first period. Arizona's forward Mark Kolanos followed with a pair of goals for the Sundogs. Kolanos tied the game at the 38-second mark of the second period and then scored the game winner for the Sundogs in overtime. Goaltender Kevin Reiter suffered the loss for the Komets making 31 saves on 33 shots and Arizona's Doug Groenestege posted the win on 28 saves. Both netminders were making their first appearance of the season.

Saturday Komet defenseman Frankie DeAngelis put the Komets on the board at 3:11 of the first period and defenseman Guy Dupuis scored the game winner at 11:59 of the second period. Defenseman Tyler Butler pulled the Sundogs within one at 18:57 of the second period. A scoreless third period gave the Komets the 2-1 win. Nick Boucher earned the win making 30 saves in his 300th career game while Groenestege took the loss on 29 saves.

The Komets enter the third week of the season at an even 1-1-1 for three points after three games played.

Penalty shots.....there were two penalty shots taken during the Komets game at Arizona Saturday night, one for each team. Right wing Sean O'Connor was awarded Fort Wayne's first penalty shot of the season but was turned aside by Sundog goalie Doug Groenestege at 2:06 of the second period. Fort Wayne netminder Nick Boucher successfully stopped Arizona's Chris Kane at 17:23 of the second frame and improved to 5-1 while facing penalty shots in the Fort Wayne net. Boucher has not allowed a penalty shot goal in the last four straight attempts against him.

Komets head for Quad City Friday.....the Komets will make their first of four trips to Quad City this Friday for an 8:05pm faceoff (Fort Wayne time). It's the only game on tap for the K's this week and it's the first meeting between Fort Wayne and the Mallards as members of the CHL. The game will mark the 84th meeting between the two teams covering a history of three leagues. Last year as members of the IHL the Komets were 12-1-2 in 15 meetings against the Mallards and 5-1-1 in seven games at Quad City. The Mallards are coming off their first win of the season, defeating the IceMen at Evansville Sunday 2-1, and are 1-3-0 after their first four games.

Next home games Friday, Nov. 5 and Saturday, Nov. 6.....the Komets will be back in action at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum Friday, Nov. 5 at 8pm when the Bloomington PrairieThunder make their first visit of the season. Then the new Evansville IceMen make their Fort Wayne debut Saturday, Nov. 6 at 7:30pm.
